DWP Job Offer...but I didnit attend the interview?!

Today, amongst a pile of rejection letters, I received a letter from the DWP informing me I was successful in the interview I attended. It then continued to say that I need to completed a form for the pre-recruitment checks and that they look forward to working with me in the future. All this is brilliant if it wasn't for one thing...I didn't go to an interview!
I applied for this job back in March and got invited to the assesment centre. However, I did not attend the assesment centre as I was on holiday, so therefore unable to attend. I thought this would be the last I would hear from them until I received this letter.
What should I do now? I feel I should phone them up an explain but my other people think I should go along with it! Help!
PS - Apologies for the typo in the title post. I hate errors and I don't know how to edit it!

Go for it - after all why do you need an interview to sit around all day and read the newspaper whilst your pension racks up, it is DWP after all.Life is too short to drink bad wine!0

I was successful in the job and I didn't even attend the interview or the assesment centre!!
My partner is relling me to take the job as well, but what I'm worried about is getting caught out. Even though I haven't done anything wrong, it's their mistake, I will feel fraudulent if I take the job. I'm in a dilemma!0 -
Do you have a common first name? It could be that they have sent the letter to the wrong rcool80?
Either way, well done on your new job, and I love the way you spotted your typo!Gone ... or have I?0 -

No I have a very very unusual first name...to the extent people are always commenting on it!!
I do have a common surname though. That could be where the mistake lays.0 -
What a mess!
You will have to mention it, you just don't know what the mistake is and how embarassing for it to be discovered once you have been working there a few months!
Mind you if you are in receipt of any benefit you will probably find it now gets stopped as you have turned a job offer down.0 -

Yea I would be so worried that they would find out after I started work there! I would be living in fear of that so do you think its just better to phone up and tell them they've made a mistake?
Luckily I don't claim any benefits so that is not an issue.0 -

Ha, wouldn't it be nice to be able to brass neck it and take the job! I like you would be too stressed.
I would ring them and ask about the offer, they may realise as soon as you give your details that they have made a mistake without you even mentioning it. You could say you are pleased that they did not hold you being on holiday against you and see where it goes from there!
Let us know!0 -
At a stretch, I suppose you could claim that you thought they were so desperate for staff that they took anyone who applied...
Funny one though. I really don't know what I would do in those circs.:idea:0
