At a stretch, I suppose you could claim that you thought they were so desperate for staff that they took anyone who applied...
Funny one though. I really don't know what I would do in those circs.
Yes, if you were careful enough on the phone to give them enough information to work it out without actually coming out and saying you didn't do an interview you could claim ignorance, if you dare!:D0 -

I don't know if I'd have the audacity to do that! I could try I suppose! I would be worried that it could be detrimental to any subsequent applications to the civil service though.0 -

Yes me too, just ring 'em and let them know how much you would have loved to have had the job. You never know they might have got themselves in a mess not keeping any of the other interviewees so maybe you could end up with a last minute interview!
Edit:
The DWP often pool their applications, people are accepted for work they then wait for a start date and during this time the DWP collect info. Perhaps they want your info to keep ready for any future interviews.0 -
I still haven't plucked up the courage to phone them...I don't to say "Hi, I think you've sent me a job offer by mistake but I'll take it anyway" but I don't know what else I can say!0

why dont you just be honest, give them a call and then things will be sorted one way or another and you wont have any worries then!!! simple as A B C0

True, but then I may have missed an opportunity. Or I could just ignore it and pretend it didn't happen!0 -

The only opportunity you will have missed is one you aren't entitled to. The civil service is about open and fair competition and if you haven't been through one then you aren't entitled to a post.
It's obviously an error and would be uncovered eventually. Public servants subscribe to honesty and integrity (supposedly!) and yours would be questioned if, and when, you were found out.0 -

It think your reply is the one I needed to make me do the right thing! Thanks! If I was to take the job and get found out, it could be detrimental to my future career. I'll phone them up tomorrow and explain the situation.0 -
how do you know that the job isnt yours? Perhaps they picked you solely on your cv....you never know.
I would phone and just confirm that the job offer was for you without stating that you didnt go for interview. If they confirm it, then its yours.0 -

No problem. I'm sorry if my post came across in any way harsh or implying that you were a dishonest person.
I'm a civil servant and can assure you, the mistake (if indeed it is one) would be spotted eventually. Do you want the embarassment and stress of being dismissed for dishonesty?0
