Tax the poor - not the rich

Of course these taxes pay for 'free' health care and education amongst other public services, perhaps people should be allowed a reduction in tax in return for paying for private heathcare and education?
Or for having no children, never being ill, living in unadopted roads, etc, etc. Unfortunately society cannot function like that.0 -
It's always income tax isn't it? People talk about 40% as though that were the whole story. It isn't.

the poor are poor because they are lazy or stupid or both. why should an ignorant shelf staker earn the same as a brain surgeon? wwhy should the surgeon be punished with extra tax?
So when everyone works harder and becomes a brain surgeon...............then what?0 -
Pigmyhippo wrote: »The fact is that if you are earning over £100k per year. you will already have substantially more disposable income left after paying necessary bills such as energy, water rates, fuel. If you want a flat rate tax and disagree with the richer in society paying more, then how about making energy/council tax/food prices proportional to the amount someone earns.
e.g 10000 pa earnings
25% taxes = £2500
10% energy bill = £1000
20% food bill = £2000
etc
100000 pa earnings
25% tax = £25000
10% energy bill = £10000
20% food bill = £20000
etc
The system you describe sounds quite similar to communism, from memory that wasn't especially successful.0 -
As a percentage of income, the poor already pay more tax thanks to movement of tax away from income tax to indirect (or stealth) taxes.
And most people who take a high wage do not earn it.
GGThere are 10 types of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those that don't.0 -
what an utter load of tripe!!!!!
i take it the OP is super rich and is just a tad angry he/she will be loosing a few more pence.
as for the dumb shelf stacker you mention OP, if he or she didnt do it you would have to do it yourself mate, like empty yer own bin ect ect.
i dont know how you have the bare faced cheek to call people ignorant, dumb and stupid. unless you are of course looking in a mirror and talking about yourself because i have never heard anything as stupid, nor listened to anyone more ignorant and definatly dumb!!
i know were not supposed to feed the trolls but i had a bit of spare rubbish to throw at them!!self confessed 80's throwback:D

Ooh, doesn't sound something to welcome, though I'm sure you are wanting to.0 -
Plus, private medical and private school fees should be tax deductible
So when you get that long term condition who you going to turn to? Your private medical won't be intrested.
OH RIGHT you want me to pay for it? You'll be turning back to the NHS0
