Selling car scam

Hi,
I have my car up for sale on autotrader,
I had a call from a company 'Vehicle Media Advertising Ltd'
They want £89 upfront, but they say they have buyers for my car waiting with £12,000 to spend, they arrange finance for the person who is buying and i will get my full asking price of £10,995.

I'm not giving them money upfront who ever they are, i've heard about scams where they just send u a magazine.
is this one of those?

Its a scam, there are a few threads on MSE and Honest John about this and other similar companies. If you look on the Autotrader website it also has a warning about this type of scam.

Do not give them any money

I'll admit I feel for this when I was 21 selling a car, They told me they had a seller and sold the whole thing well.

Never again, you live and learn.

As you are not advertising your car for sale with them, they can't have
buyers interested in your car. Any potential buyer who was interested in your car would have seen it in Autotrader, and they would be contacting you directly, using the contact details in your Autotrader advert, not through some third-party you've never heard of before.

When I put my old car on Auto trader I got an email off a guy in Austria saying he will buy my car but it has to be shipped to Austria I told him to run and jump.

Try ebay it's another good one.

If someone is prepared to pay you £1200 for the car, let THEM make you the offer, you or they wouldnt need a middleman to do that.

I put my car on autotrader a few years back and kept getting emails off of people saying they will send me a cheque for £5,000 even though its on sale for £1,000. Then I could send the extra amount to their "friend" whome theyowe the money to.

Luckily mamma didn't raise no fool. This is another scam and usually the cheque would bounce a few weeks later leaving you £4,000 and one car down.
