I dont think they are, they are offering a service as the autotrader, but when they get your money I dont hink they do much.
What? Of course they're operating illegally. It's fraud. They claim to have buyers that they do not have.

  • I have just been contacted by vehicle Media or Vehicle Advertiser Services as they also call themselves. I was immediately sceptical about them so I searched Companies House and found they are registered but when I called Companies House to ask if this guarantees the company is legitimate they said no. I also called trading standards to see how I can check and they said there is no 100% guaranteed way to prove if they are legitimate.

I am going to follow my gut instinct and decline their offer however, my boyfriend has just bought a car via this method from forces cars direct and there have been no problems at all. I thought they only dealt with people in the armed forces but they offer £100 for referals to friends and family so must be open to everyone.
  • As you are not advertising your car for sale with them, they can't have
buyers interested in your car. Any potential buyer who was interested in your car would have seen it in Autotrader, and they would be contacting you directly, using the contact details in your Autotrader advert, not through some third-party you've never heard of before.
I fell victim recently, told me they had buyers already and offered me £100 on top of what I was asking as the company got their money through the credit agreement the buyers took out.
Then said if I paid an £89 refundable payment, they will send buyers the following day who already have the credit for the car, foolishly I gave bank details but was told it wouldn't go out my account until buyer has confirmed he wanted it.

Heard nothing for a week until I checked account online and noticed he took the £89 just after I gave him the account, I called right away swearing and blinding and he told me I was bound to their agreement until vehicle was sold and to look on the website.
Told him I was contacting the AA and other consumer companies and he called right back and offered me £50 refund, I accepted and will create a mess for them on websites and blogs to prevent anyone else.

I put my car on autotrader a few years back and kept getting emails off of people saying they will send me a cheque for £5,000 even though its on sale for £1,000....

Was the email TYPED IN CAPITALS ONLY? :D
  • I was desperate to sell my car when i received a call from this co.They promised quick sale with buyers they had lined up who had opt for a car loan from this co and would not otherwise be able to pay £13999 for a car.I do not usually fall victim to such frauds but i must say this co operates in a structured and organised manner and are exploiting a loophole. Mastercared i used to pay £99 refused to get this money back for me.I believe we can take this co to court and our case would be strong enough if we all who have fallen victim to this co's fraudulent acts lodge a case together.
