Whoever said I wanted to insult you? I'm making an observation on your intellect based on what you write, no more or less.

As I said in my post:

"What I do object to, and what I object to very strongly, is feeling ashamed to let my children accept an English flag from people in the town centre (as I did on Saturday), because it has become the symbol of a petty, jealous, sneering and disingenuous view of the world that paints what is different and foreign as a threat, which seeks to set one group of people apart based on lies, exaggerations and demagoguery."

If you support the BNP you're either a knave or a fool, because the BNP uses spurious arguments and rabble rousing to collect supporters, generally from disadvantaged ill-educated groups. Those making the arguments - the knaves - know precisely what they're doing: it's demagoguery, aimed at scapegoating entire groups on the basis they look or behave differently.

I'm heartily sick of watching the far right wrap MY flag around themselves. You make me ashamed to be British, and ashamed to let my children carry THEIR flag because people like you have tainted it with your foul generalisations.

The union flag is merely a symbol, perhaps your own fear and loathing of accepting the flag is more deep rooted than simply because the BNP use it, i never see the arguments you use for carrying it during major football tournaments where England are involved, i loathe the tory party, but would not refuse to carry it because they use it their promotional pushes, many major companies use the flag in their logos, i have never heard of one of them refusing to use it, because of the connection to the BNP, and during the (low key) St Georges day celebrations, i never heard one person say they would not wear a hat bedecked with the union flag for the reasons you give, personally i would like to see the union flag flown from as many private, and public buildings as possible, to enable us to revive the era of patriotism.
Thankyou Sir Alex for 26 years

STOP PRESS: Applications for working visas to Australia, available to those under age of ?? (Ask Generali ?!) from Germany & UK are up 20% this year.

It depends on the sort of visa you want. Details here:

    http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/

Australia has tightened up on certain classes of visa recently. So-called 'tradies' can no longer apply for permanent migration as they have 'temporarily' been removed from the list of required skills. Examples of 'tradies' are plumbers and refrigeration engineers.

'Tradies' can still be sponsored to come over but it's not a great life, especially if you have a family. You get no access to any form of state support (you have to pay for your kids' education for example) and if you lose your job you have 28 days to find another before you get kicked out of the country.

    what unites British people? :

The English language for one (or it should) - there is no excuse for 2nd or 3rd generation Pakistani families not using English.

thats right dervish - well said. they dont want to intigrate with us they have there own religion and sheria law and they all live together in ghettos and exclude people who are not the same as them. its ok for all the polititions to wlecome them, they all live in nioce parts of the country like kent. in the inner cities its us who are being swamped with foreigners who dont speak english. we feel like outsiders in our own country.

its all out of control and im glad there are people liek you and ultra who are prepaered to stand up for the rights of others even if people abuse you. well done.

This thread makes me ashamed to be british..... British for many generations i might add..... but still ashamed.

The petty nonsense of scape-goat blaming one group or bashing others is nonsense. Users capitalising and posting in stupid colours.... over such a ridiculous subject.

All it does it make me feel ashamed i share the same nationality as you guys.

I see many parrallels with germany 1935-1945 onwards..... Yes immigration should be controlled, yes it should benefit the country... but blanket blaming immigrants for troubles, problems is an attitude of the less educated (unfortunately majority in this country).

I lived in Bradford for 18 years, I was in the next town when the race riots happened, train stations boarded up in case it overspilled there. I've lived in Reading.... and then Plymouth.

Each place had a different 'minority'... and in each case the local populace blanket blamed them for their problems. In Bradford those of pakistani descent, in Reading Africans and Gypsies, in Plymouth Polish and Eastern Europeans.

While living in bradford it was 'tense' and there were bad people from every walk of life, many bad areas, poverty stricken too. But it was home, and i had a fair pakistani friends who were really good mates and great people.

I'm tired of the blanket labelled of people in this country. In the end people are just people... and we all originated from africa anyways... There are bad people from every walk of life.

And in my humble opinion BNP is just the opposite end of the spectrum when we talk about religous hate inciters....

immigration topics often end with racist tones.
    immigration is nessesary.
most of the times problems or differences are with generalisation to cover communities.
basically immigartion the issues might be:
    1. illegal immigration--i agree a lot of taxpayers money is spent on it.
    2. asylum seekers-- again a lot of money spent on handouts, housing etc.
Both these categories should be put on boat and sent to a far away --maybe to Australia.
3.EU immigrants--bug*er all can be done about it. everyone knows that.
    4. Economic immigrants--should be welcome because it is this group that fills in the jobs that would be difficult to fill in by the local population--i'd like to think the controls on this group are well in place given that this is the only group that can actually be controlled legally.

You missed the point entirely (see below). And some are saying close the borders - read the posts. Some are BNP supporters; they want voluntary repatriation - oh and lots of healthy living, fresh air, corporal punishment, and women to stay at home!

Why would even more managed immigration (as you put it) change the fact that there are no fixed amounts of jobs in any economy? It would not solve unemployment or house repossessions, for example.

I am not sure about your point about services; if migrants are working they pay taxes. If they are illegal they can't access services.

If you are saying the country is not big enough in terms of infrastructure, then what we do if the estimated 8.8 million emigrants came 'home'?

    Never mind.

Just one point about this is that illegal immigrants CAN still access the NHS an use it.
When I worked in maternity there was an abunance of women who appeared only in either late stages of pregnancy or once they were in labour. Funnily enough they all gave the same address and all their children were then entitled to British passports and in later days Irish passports too (born in Northern Ireland).

It was never followed up as the staff just didn't have the time or energy to start reporting women who were often only in for a day or two. That said some did require medical intervention at higher cost such as c-sections.

Yes, I am sure this happens - do not doubt you for a moment; but pregant women coming into the NHS at late stages is a cause for grave concern, anyway. If an illegal immigrant is reported they are arrested. More often, they are picked up by police, though, rather than reported by over-worked NHS staff. Still, illegal immigrants, as said, do not have legal access to services.

For me, I hate the thought of pregnant women anywhere in the world not having access to midwives and docs. If only the IMF did not indebt nations and force private health care then more people would have better services; including us!
