N95 data transfer
  Lovely new Nokia N95 upgrade arrived today (bargain deal with o2). However I have totally failed at transferring data from one to the other (old one was N95 too).
If I connect to pc with cable I don't get that little noise that you get when you connect something and it doesn't seem to do anything at all. Bluetooth won't work (although I can "see" it) but "fails" when data is transferred.
My son is chomping at the bit for my old phone which I can't hand over until I've 'cleaned' it of data although it is all on my pc.
Any ideas before I throw it through the window?

have you tired a different usb cable?
Done both of those two too!
Turned everything on, then off and on again, pc included. Tried it in the laptop and pc.....Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!0 -
When you plug the usb in both ends do you get a list of four choices come up on the phone, they should be something like PC Suite, Data transfer, media player and image print.
If they dotn come up, it could be a problem with the usb port on your phone...
Just a thought. Best of luck0 -
if you want to do a full reset (deleting all contacts. messages, pics, vids, music etc), then im sure a master reset of the phone should do.
on the phone, go to settings and look for something along the lines of master reset. as a guide, (on a sony ericsson) you go to settings > general > master reset > reset all & enter the phone lock code (NOT THE PIN CODE!). i'm guessing it will be similar on a nokia0 -
Via Bluetooth, have you properly paired the two phones? No free lunch, and no free laptop0

And the prize goes to Treadway!
Yes Nokia think its a problem with the phone USB connection and they tell me the bluetooth transfer is rarely successful (hmm, useful tool then?!). Had a bit of fun and games with one guy asking me if I'd tried different cables (yes of course) and the next telling me NEVER to use different cables other than the one supplied with the phone !
New phone arriving tomorrow. I'll let you know if it works.Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!0
