Ebay posting info.

I buy a few bits on Ebay and normally once I pay I get an email saying "item despatched" either the same or next day. When I sell I email to say when I'm sending or have sent item.

This time though I won an auction on Monday, paid same day by Paypal and have heard nothing. No idea if they have been sent or when to expect delivery.

Do you normally advise of posting?

I aways do. I'd say 50% off the stuff I buy I get status updates from the sellers tool they are using. I often get nothing at all from most private sellers. I usually chase chase them on day+3 if its a no-show and give 'em 0 for communications.

Not all buyers mark items as dispatched. I suppose if you're sending loads of items it can get annoying.

I do it, just so I don't get pointless emails saying if my item has been sent yet.

I will wait till Friday before asking if it's been sent, unless of course it turns up before.

I always send a dispatch advice, but have never received one from a private seller, which is a shame (and gets a star knocked off the communication score).

If I buy from a business seller, I often get 3 or 4 emails (presumably some sort of automated thing).

Hardly ever let buyers know, but never had anyone asking when it was going to turn up either, unless it didn't turn up at all.

We do print postage from paypal, and that lets buyers know.... in theory- as a buyer we have had things that have been here for days before the paypal notification turned up.

Maybe we should but we spend so much time on despatch that it's just too much hassle.
Communication & despatch are both at 4.8 and are a constant. Good enough for us. :)
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine. :p

I'm just a humble private seller, I don't sell a lot, but when I do sell something I take the time to:

    1) Send an email to say thank you for paying promptly and let the buyer know when I intend to post the item.
    2) Send an email when I have posted it, with tracking number.
    3) Update PayPal status to 'Sent', again with tracking number if applicable.
    4) Leave positive feedback.

Some people may think that is too much, but when I am buying something I like to be kept updated, but a consistent 4.9 for comms suggests my buyers appreciate it too.

I think people aren't bothered as long as they get their item promptly.

    I would agree.

Certainly people expect some form of communication if there is going to be a delay for any reason though.

But if you are working it's useful to have a rough idea of when to expect delivery. Another item I bought Monday and was 2nd class postage arrived on Tuesday.
