DWP online assessment for Higher executive role

  • I already work for the DWP as a HEO everthing takes time. If you haven't heard within 3 weeks of the testing it is highly likely that you did not pass. They are petty quick letting successful applicants know via a phone call.

As for the testing the situational questions are very relevant to the positions and test the required calibre required of applicants. The DWP is not an easy job and we face huge challenges on a daily basis. Especially at HEO level when you are responsible for the running of the Jobcentre/Contact Centre as well as huge responsibilities for staff and premises. I wish you evey success in the future, it maybe wise to apply for EO then progess within the service internally!

    Regards
  • I have taken the HEO online assessment and awaiting a phone call. Can you please let me know what is expected of you during the presentation, did you have to look at a piece of paper of you have to deliver it without any reference to your notes, is there are a board and how many people were present at the panel. As you now work as an HEO, i guess you passed through this as well, pls can you help.
  • Hi, could anyone shed some light on the following PLEASE?
In brief, I applied for the HEO vacancy in September 2009, had my on line assessment by 13/10/2009 and received a positive response via email from Shared Services dated 19/10/2009 and the reply was stating as follows:

THIS IS AN AUTOMATED EMAIL NOTIFICATION. PLEASE DO NOT REPLY.

Thank you for completing our on line tests 8/10/2009.

As you met the minimum standard, I am pleased to be able to offer you a place on our waiting list. The waiting list will last for 6 Months from the date of this letter. We would hope to be able to progress you to interview during this time, though I cannot guarantee this.

If you do not wish to be placed on the waiting list or there have been any changes in your circumstances, please contact me.

We will contact you as soon as we have any further information. In the meantime, congratulations on your success.

I've so far received neither a call nor an email and just wondering whether I will ever receive a call/invitation for an interview!
Appreciate if someone could advice me on the above subject as am totally :confused:.
  • this is quite common, you will probably recieve an invite to attend an interview out of the blue. Basically you are on a waiting list for the next interview panel should one arise within the 6 months, wont hear anymore until then and and its just a case of waiting, not much help i'm afraid but hope this clarifies things

  • Hello Skintbint, thanks for your positive response. However, I just wonder why DWP takes so long to invite prospective candidates who passed the test for interview?
I do understand what you say as 'the call will come out of the blue' but I do certainly know that the DWP is currently recruiting for Band D - HEO positions INTERNALLY in the South East INTERNALLY - over 45 positions available and calling existing DWP staff to apply. Therefore, I wonder whether DWP will ever consider external candidates in the near future!

Hi, I believe that you too applied for the HEO vacancy around September/October 2009. Would you please let me know whether you received any phone calls and if so, could you provide some assistance on this. I spoke to few @ DWP Shared Services but no positive feedback from them as they keep on passing the buck around without any firm reply. Thanks !

they will probably do the internal first but 45 is a helluva amount so would doubt they will get all that from staff already in post at EO level, at every recruitment they try to encourage internal recruitment so there is experience of the department throughout all grades especially at HEO grade - keep an eye on the DWP vacancies website and also the civil service recruitment website as people tend to jump departments so you may find posts within Customs & Excise, Immigration, etc will be advertised for your area

This isn't how it works. They are run as completely seperate excercises. There was a recent external drive in the south east which closed towards the end of November for applications. Anyone can apply for these external vacancies internal staff or external staff. Once you have applied it does not matter if you are internal or external. If they run a recruitment drive they will have posts allocated to that excercise. It's not a matter of filling those posts internally and then going to the external applications.

Internal excercises are used to recruit internally.

DWP is a fair and open employer and advertised nationally for the recent external vacancies I just mentioned. :T

You have to apply for a post that requires the use of the online test and you will be sent the link. A generic link will be useless for you as you will need a username and password which you receive when you get your invite after the intial app stage. HTH.
