Is car insured when driven?

Can you help? My son has bought a new car and transferred his insurance to the new one. He has still got his old taxed and MOT'd one on our drive. Can we drive it on the road, under our own insurance as long as its not parked on the road and left there. Also when someone test drives it with their own cars not owned by them clause?
Thanks

ANPR will flag the car as uninsured...........the cover (if covered at all) will be third party only.........we could all insure a skoda and drive a impretza with drive any car clause insurance..........phone your insurance company, they are the only people that can answer your question.

The car will be insured whilst it's in the care or being driven by Nigem (albeit Third Party Only).
As soon as Nigem parks up on a public highway or public place (car park, Tescos etc) to go shopping or whatever the car will instantly be uninsured and liable to seizure. Not only is the car likely to be seized but the registered keeper will also face action. The man without a signature.0 -
The owner of the car cant drive it using the TP cover on another policy as it will be a limitation that the other cant be owned by you
Test drives are possible but at best it will be third party cover.0 -
Thanks for your help. I was planning to drive it round to another house to park it on their drive, and out of our way! But i dont want to get my son into any bother. I have no intention of driving it to the shops, but if someone test drives it under their insurance it will also not be parked in a public place.

The car still needs to be insured somewhere0

I think basically if you (or anyone else) has comprehensive cover for another car, it will more than likely cover you to drive any vehicle 3rd party only, providing that you are not the owner of the said vehicle. So you WOULD be insured to drive it but as someone said before it would flash up on ANPR as uninsured, the police would then pull you and you'd have to prove you had your comp on another car each time.0

I have no idea if this is the law or not, but i have always been led to believe that my 3rd party cover on any vehicle not owned by me was only valid if there was an active insurance policy on the car I was driving.0

Just so I can subscribe to see opinions (never selected at first post), why should I pay £240 for my hayabusa when i could pay £50 for a Honda c90 and register/let my wife own the busa and drive it under 3rd party only?0

Because your insurance certificate (for the Honda c90) won't permit you to drive tpo a vehicle owned by your wife.

No, I'm pretty sure the any veh TPO is from your own insurance, not the car your driving with the TPO. If that makes any sense.scotsman4th wrote: »I have no idea if this is the law or not, but i have always been led to believe that my 3rd party cover on any vehicle not owned by me was only valid if there was an active insurance policy on the car I was driving.0
