To the OP. You are not understanding the difference between two types of online car 'sellers'. There are just a handful, like us, who simply enable a transaction cleanly where you buy the car as first owner from a franchised dealer...that is buying a new car.
I think you may be confusing the issue by possibly looking at lots of internet sites where you are buying an already-registered car and may not get a logbook. You won't be buying brand new, you'll be buying as second owner in those cases so the £2k is not applicable as the deal has already been done by a company buying the car new, then you buy second hand from them. It shouldn't be happening and this scheme may get rid of brokers still doing it

I am furious. Once a gain, devil is in the detail and if anything this will not get the car market moving as individuals can simply go online to get a much cheaper deal!
