Car scrappage scheme a SCAM! Maximum discount off current prices really only 1K!!!

Just been ringing round a few of the online dealers this afternoon, confirming my worst fears about this car scrappage scheme... It IS A SCAM!!! All of the online discount breokers will not honour the 2K as the prices they sell at already include a significant discount premium...

For example:

http://www.acesales.co.uk/documents/NEWFIE...09WEBPRICES.pdf

http://www.nationwide-cars.co.uk/cars/ford...back_m43794.asp

both of which sell at highly attractive used prices... however, BECAUSE the government are insisting that the manufacturer fund 50% of the deal, you cant haggle any lower and the car manufacturers are insisting you go main dealer and get ripped off!!!! So in other words, you will only get cars for at minimum, 1K off the above advertised prices!

I am furious. Once a gain, devil is in the detail and if anything this will not get the car market moving as individuals can simply go online to get a much cheaper deal!

F00k!

What did you expect to happen?

FYI for most Marques the only people that can sell genuine car new is the main Dealer.

I can't see MFR's subsidising used car purchases regardless of where you purchase them from. Why would they???

Well, dont expect the motor industry to bounce back like it has done in germany then. Because in Germany, their scheme allows for exactly what I have described above. Greedy filthy car manufacturers need to cut prices, not put them up if they intend to stay in business.

That is, unless they want to completely cover the airfield near Swindon in unused, unwanted and drastically overpriced new cars that is.

Ford putting up prices 1st of April by a few % is taking the pi$$. Dont they know there is a recession on?

Are you seriously saying that the only people we should buy from is main dealer? Are you perachance one of those suit wearing main dealer slimeballs that like to screw lots of cash out of dumb punters perchance?
  • The scheme is too assist the car industry as a whole. Giving customers cars 2k cheaper wont do that.

The car industry needs extra cash and this is why they want to encourage people to buy brand new cars from dealers. It helps the dealers and the manufacturers.

Why on hell do you think the tax payer should just help people buy a new car without benefiting the industry

and um the german car industry didnt bounce back - the scheme had major flaws

This is good for car manufacturers and a scam on the public.
First in today's climate you can usually get a good discount regardless. One of my sheltered housing tenants just got £2000 off a modest new car.
Only way to test it out is to go and negotiate your discount. THEN produce your banger and ask for another £2000 off.
But if you have one of those cars that just goes and goes and where you know the history - why would you swap it and put yourself in hock for a new car which will straightaway depreciate a lot more than your theoretical discount?

Most manufacturers routinely increase list prices by x% each year. That doesn't mean anything. What matters is the transaction price. For example if I were Ford UK and I increase a Focus ST from £22k to £27k, but my dealers are selling the car for £16k and are still selling it at that price after the increase then where is the problem?

If you go to a broker and order then your order is handled by a UK main dealer!

No, the car industry needs to get real over pricing. They need to get cutting, rapidly, or there will be no car industry left in 5 years. The tax payers owe car manufacturers F*ck all. Why should they discount car prices that peeps can go out and get online for cheaper anyway, after you have subtracted the 2K discount?

So, in other words, buy for 3K cheaper online, or use the government discount, not get a penny to trade in your old car, and still pay an extra grand for the priviledge of going to the likes of a Ford forecourt and get ripped off?

This scheme is !!!!!!!!. And I tell you something for nothing, car dealers/manufacturers better get cutting their margins further, becasue if they ,dont they are going to be dead inside of 5 years. You cant justify boom time inflated prices at a time people are struggling for money.

If the scheme had given me 2K towards buying a car from an online dealer, I would have gone out and bought a new car tomorrow. Instead, I sit with the thousands of others that were planning to upgrade this year and will keep their cars until the new and used market collapses. About 6-12 months.

I think you are getting a bit worked up on this, we all knew it wouldn't be that great. As for car prices I don't think they are too bad, especially compared to 10-20 years ago. That was when we really got ripped off.

The other thing you have to remember is that the £ has crashed against the major currencies so any car that comes in from Europe will be about 25% more expensive (all things remaining equal)

Your a bit special aren't you.

The scheme in Germany is wholly funded by the German Government, therefore tis irrelevant.

Our government in its infinite wisdom as decided that the MFR should contribute...out of what if they where making huge profits then we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Also if you buy from a broker by definition you are not buying from the MFR so why should they further subsidise the transaction???

In reality the net benefit to Joe public is £1k.

Anyone who thinks there is a huge margin on the majority of new cars is in cloud cuckoo land.

Also FYI the reason for price increases is mainly because the £ has gone down vs the €. I would love to know how this is a MFR's fault.
