  • Hi, we are having similar issues with our application through Natwest/RBS. SMITJEH i'd be interested to hear how your story ends as it is over a month ago now since your post - hopefully a happy ending?

To cut a long story short; every time we go back to them with information they ask for more. This clearly takes time and drags the process out when we want our vendor to retain good faith in us.

The most recent request is an anti-impersonation letter which they claim they posted to us over a week ago. Went into our branch and none of the guys there even know what this is. Surely a passport/payslip/utility bill would be enough...you'd think.

When I explained that we are in the middle of a postal strike and it could be weeks before it arrives they said it is something that has to go out in the post...what century are we in!?

Any suggestions as to how this process is likely to go from here gratefully received...it sems we are no closer to getting valuation done

We are with RBS and have just remortgaged and they took ages. We are now moving and porting our mortgage and although we have contact through our business advisor it still seems to be taking ages and we have to go through the whole investigative process again despite only doing it 3 months ago. Sorry if this seems depressing but I think all banks go through a similar process. Think yourself lucky as I think if this was 6 months hence it would be alot worse ( with all the new stuff coming in regarding self cert etc). Just be patient and good luck
Smile though your bank is breaking:)
  • I recently applied to HSBC for a mortgage, I am a first time buyer and I applied for a mortgage of £77000 with my 10% deposit (property value 87000). I have never missed a payment on any loans I have had and have only made 1 late payment on my credit card (simply paid at the end of one month thinking it was the next month).

I didn't meet HSBC's lending criteria, so I immediately phoned my bank (RBS) who had the week before given me an agreement in principal, they approved me over the phone and I have since signed the giving my agreement forms and I am currently awaiting a decison from the underwriters.

It was very informative seeing everyone's posts, I only hope everyone had the outcome they wanted?

    Wish me luck.
  • My position is the same as Bigvern58 only the first bank was Barclays. What has happened since? Any ideas of what to expect?
