If you need some extra cash you could approach the council to see if they need any lollypop ladies. It pays about £6.50ph and it's only a few hours a day or may even be just on standby. You could also put up a card offering cleaning. In some areas it very hard to find a good cleaner.

  • I dug through my friends cupboard (with permission ;) ) and found an empty squirty bottle to put the stardrops in, I cleaned it up and took the label off so now I have a cute bright pink squirtybottle which wont look to shabby in my bathroom.

I've put the lightbulbs on my shopping list, thank z1985 sounds fab!

And Poppy that sounds like a great idea. The few hours work would suit me perfectly. I'm going to look on the council website and see what's advertised.

I've looked up fridges and it says to keep them more then 3/4 full, this can be achieved by filling the freezer with ice and the fridge with water.

My next question is how can I best handwash things? What's cheap washing liquid/ powder, and is the best meathod the fill the sink up with hot water, leave to soak, mush around then rinse way??

For washing you are better using powder rather than tablets as you can use less for small wash. Tesco's were selling off their own brand 10 wash box of powder for a £1 earlier this week. I only hand wash if absolutely necessary. You need hot water to disolve the powder so I use a wooden spoon to move the clothes around the bowl. How are you going to dry clothes if it's raining as they will need to drip dry if you don't have a spinner. You could hang them over the bath if you have one.

It could shift Stain(e)s from Surrey. (That doesn't work in writing.) I've used it to remove all kinds of stuff (inc. make-up, lipstick ;) ) from my best white shirt.

Dont know if water rates are included in your rent, but I know these can be quite expensive in some places. A water meter would be ideal for a person in your situation if one could be fitted.

Wishing you the best of luck, there's a big world out there and you're only young once!!

Miss this is an interesting thread and hope you find a lot of help from the tips but I am a little baffled by your comment that you can't get mail.Especially when you said that you had managed to join the local library which you need proof of address for.???

I have lived in student accomodation and shared flats and houses and have even had friends in squats who used to recieve mail. So excuse me for being a little baffled as to why you can't get mail.Unless your address has to be secret such as in a women's refuge or witness protection program, I would think everyone can recieve mail. Even my parents caravan site can get post.
