Stephen Leak you're a star
I think you're right with the bed, a few people have said that to me. I'm limited with what I can fit in the room but I'm thinking I will spend more then I'd planned as otherwise I could see myself having to buy again as I wasn't content.
Good, very good tip with the toiletries too. I'd packed bare minimum but I'm going to take another look through and I may give some of my backups to a friend who will visit me every month so she can bring them down to me if I need more. Better to use what I have and means I'll have more time to shop for cheap replacements as you said.
I'm going to have to try these stardrops!! With yours and pandora's suggestion it seems like a win win product, just have to find a store near me that sells them. And I'm going to ask around to see if someone has an old spray bottle to spare.
Hilstep2000 thank goodness for someone who knows the area, good to know an insiderI'm going to have to check out the 99p store, maybe that will be cheaper for some of the storage racks etc I was going to get from ikea.
Does the 17p cola work as well as bleach?? If it does it may be worth a shot.
I think ommlettes is a good idea to up my protien, I like the idea of them with lots of veg and a bit of paprika, will have to hunt for cheap free range eggs, asda's a well priced
I'm going to have to search for a good butcher. How long does cooked chicken last? I'm used to freezing everything but I'll only have a small freezer space. I'm guessing I could cut off the legs/ breast off the fresh uncooked chicken and use for a few days, then cook the carcass for soup which will last un frozen for 2? and freeze a little bit for another day.
I'm really looking forward to a proper explore, I love how there's a little camden like area, little soho, shopping district etc it's like a mini london only beautiful and by the sea!:ASaving for my future...0 -
Once the dust has settled, if you can squeeze even a small freezer into a cupboard somewhere, it is a real investment for singletons like us. Unfortunately, it is a two portion world.
There is also a thread called "Rubber Chicken" on the black art of stretching a chicken as far as possible, and on it is my recipe for making a litre of chicken soup specifically from the leftover carcass. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -

my eyes open for free days to make the most of their water
Barneysmom, you aren't mad, I've used the cheapest babywipes in the past for my face and then used them to wipe round the windows so I think I may take a look at what cheap brands there are for me to stock up on!
Notice tonight in Tesco's that their value baby wipes were 10p0 -
Has your new flat got a smoke alarm? Fire Brigades in many areas will supply and fit these for free.0

Hello - My tips-large bag of rice, that way you always have a meal (I think Basmati is on sale at Tesco for £17ish for 10kg) that's a lot of rice!! You can find it cheaper though...Its subjective as I don't know what types of things you enjoy? Its always cheaper (& more fun) to cook for 2 - share with people you meet?
Matalan, for house things (I spent a fortune in John Lewis - then realised you could get so many cheaper versions - drrrr).
Supermarket value ranges - a tin of tomatoes is a tin of tomatoes! The label is the only difference (in my humble) ditto shampoo and other toiletries.
Don't forget local papers (Fridayad) lots of things going on and local goss.
(library again).
Have a great summer and best wishes

I'm really envious, it sounds just like my first place on my own (one bedroom, one kitchen, shared bathroom!)
Is it definitely unfurnished? My first place was advertised as such, but when I moved in, the landlord had put a bed in my room (complete with new mattress, which was nice!), and a wardrobe.
One thing I managed to do after living there a few weeks was to share big bulk bags of rice, potatoes, etc, with other tenants in the building, as our space was all limited, and we were all skint.
With the shared shower room (I shared it with a gay couple who were away half the week), we came up with a fair system, one month I would keep the meter fed with 50p's, and they would supply all the cleaning products, and vice versa the next month. (it was on a separate meter to the bedsits)
Hope you have a fabulous summer in Brighton!0 -

My lovely Malasian friend put me on to the Apna basmati rice from the International Foods Aisle in Tesco.
It's £4.99 for 5kg and it's GORGEOUS!

Take slippers and a woolly hat.Sounds a bit daft I know but extremeties feel cold first and the sun isnt always shining.
You can put other things in the fridge to help keep it full.
I put kitchen towels(in plastic) in mine as it is rarely full of food.0 -
Victoriajj, I'm going to tescos on sunday so that's now on my shopping list! Thank you
Bronnie, sounds terrible but I don't know if it has?! There's a firestation 10 mins down the road so I'm going to check to see if there is and then if not phone and ask.
MouseyMousie :T thanks for the best wishes, just googled and found a fab free ethical mag I'll be hunting for each weekGood tip with the rice too, though I think that bigger bag is about the size of my studio!!! I'm going to google the best bulk buys though and I think having a base like rice or past will make my meal planning easier and keep my budget low.
Teria, nice to hear someone else has survived compact living, makes me feel much more brave!! It has a fridge freezer and a small electric cooker with two hobs, it's the size of a microwave and that's it!! Def unfirnished and to be honest I'd prefere to put in my own stuff as the place is probably 2.5m by 2.5m? It's mini, I'll get the proper measurements when I'm there, so clever furnishing is a must.
I am really excited, keep looking up pictures of how others have filled studios and mine is so much smaller then theirs. I hope I will get chatting to the other people in the house, or make friends in the bars and clubs that I can split bulk buys with, sounds like a clever way of doing it.
Zoe Girl, mostly jewellery. I'm going to try asking if I can put small displays in local shops as I've seen others do, sell a bit online, and then try and find craft fairs to sell at.
Miss B, 5kg sounds a bit more managable and will probably suit me for the 6 months! It's on my shopping list now
Culpepper I like your way of thinking, I've packed a scarf and I'm going to add in some wolly socks and a hat. And good idea with ways to fill the fridge, am I right in thinking that filling the fridge saves electric?
I just phoned and my CT will be the lowest band and I've got permission to change the electric supplier to a cheaper one if I find one :j:ASaving for my future...0
