Over the course of 8 weeks me and the kids are traveling across the globe on land/sea.
I have booked as far as Hanoi (Vietnam) but am at a loss. I can get to Japan or even down to Singapore. But i can't for the life in me manage to get across the pacific to the USA. (Ive even managed to get from the USA to UK)
Freighters was an option but my daughter is only 4 and they won't accept anyone younger than 5.
So does anyone know how i can get from pretty much anywhere in the Far East and Malaysia over to the USA or even South America?

I have a large pedalo you could borrow
Sounds brill mate - your kids are very lucky to have a Dad like you :cool:0 -
What about a transpacific cruise? - or is that too tame?
Something like this, for example:

On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0 -

Having had a think I don't think there is anything inbetween a freighter and a transpacific cruise. The distances are vast, so there's not much market for overland boats between Asia & Fare East direct.0 -
Thanks.
We set off July 1st and make our way via Rail to Colgone. Then onto Moscow and accross Mongolia to Ulan Bator, then come down to Beijing and down to Hanoi. At this point i have 2 weeks to either go to Japan via sea from Shanghai or travel down to Singapore via Kuala Lumpur.
Then somehow cross the pacific.......
Ideally ill be in the States by July 30th and in New York by 18th August. Whilst in the USA i have cheated a bit and hired a car, i was going to get the rail but you miss so much so opted for a car. Obviously then sail back to UK and then for the final leg back to mine the train.0 -
Maybe from the Philipinnes - a lot of Americans there when I went.
I would not do this - my child of 4 is totaly reliant on my judgment and trusting - what if child cut foot and got septascemia - it kills within hours. Sorry to be a neg head, maybe I'm just a worryier - but then I always think the cild might not make the decision to travel had it the maturity to make an informed decision, given lack of health facilities.0 -

I see what you're saying but i don't live by that code or ethos. I believe that life is worth living. If we worried about everything then we wouldn't even cross a road, or board a plane, or indeed do many things.
I am giving my children (in my opinion) the opportunity of a lifetime. One which they will document from day one. Something they can look back on when they are older and feel proud of.
Memories they and i will cherish forever.0 -

option 1
how big are the kids?
if they are little skinny little runts then you could get away with a double piggy back and use a space hopper to get across. granted it's a bit of a long way, but with a good run up and a following wind you may just make it!
if they're fat knackers... ignore this....
option 2
i live quite near alton towers. a number of years ago they got rid of the "swan" ride. rumour has it round this was that they were not plastic moulded swans that were fixed to track in the lake but were in fact real swans that had been gentically modified down the years so they were bred with seating capacity of 6 and had huge legs to power the said animal and passengers.
these have been seen wandering the staffordshire countryside scaring ramblers and doggers alike. You could trap one of these to use?0
