carphone warehouse insurance
Can anybody help with this one.
Daughter upgraded her phone in the summer, its in her father's name. About two months later we were buying younger child a new mobile and were enquiring about insurance. We thought we would check out insurance for first child's summer purchase and Carphone Warehouse advised that her phone was not insured.
We forgot all about the insurance then silly child lost her phone. We told her we were not replacing it so she got a new sim card, pay as you go, and stuck it in an old phone of mine.
We decided, three months later, to get a new sim card transferred to the old number and buy the cheapest phone possible.
When we went into CPW last weekend to buy, they informed us that daughters phone WAS insured. I duly reported the loss to the police and hubby rang CPW to inform them that we were going to claim on insurance.
He was told today that they will not entertain our claim as it happened more than 60 days ago!!!!!
Can they do this? We have paid the line rental for the last three months, no calls as we had them barred the day the phone went missing.
As we are still paying line rental, how come the insurance is negated.
I also feel that as the phone was lost rather than stolen it is up to us to decide when there is no hope of the phone reappearing, not Carphone Warehouse.
Anyone got any thoughts on this?
Thanks.

You have to report losses/theft within 24 hours usually. You have to obtain a crime number from the police for some networks too.
This will be clearly stated in the insurance terms and conditions.
I'm afraid for insurance purposes it's not upto you to decide when it's lost.
However, if you reported it as missing to CPW, and had calls barred, you may be able to argue that you did register the loss.0 -
tell them youve found the phone now
then lose it again next month0 -
I had forgotten I had posted this.
I had the name of the person who told us that the phone was not insured, as he had sold us the phone for number 2 child, his name was printed on the receipt.
For some reason they would not discuss this over the phone, it all had to be done in writing so I whacked an email off to them, giving them the name of the gentleman in the shop and they agreed it was their fault and replaced the phone.
Anyway, thank you for your replies.0
