calculated as follows:
132 units price 4149@1.879, 31days@ 12.850 total inc vat £86.04
Check the meter reading is correct from the day you moved in, sometimes the old owner moves out early and leaves the heating on, or provides an inaccurate reading, you should only pay for what you have used.Pawpurrs x0 -

The same has just happened to me got my bill this morning £205 and its underestimated
Phone Npower and got a lovely geordie :smileyhea he said he thought my bill was way too high for a 3 bedroomed house, hes asked me to take a reading every day for the next week then ring him back.
My meter is 10 years old and he reckons it could be running too fast
Worth a go if you ring your supplier :j0 -
I've just had my bill in from Atlantic, from 1st Jan to 6th March it is £280.00! I can't believe it.
I am incredibly careful how long the c/h is on for - 2 hours in the morning (hot water and c/h at the mo) and only about 4 hours in the evening. I work from home but am bundled up all day in layers of clothing and unless it's really freezing, try not to put it on until late afternoon. When the family are home at the w/e, then it's on for about 8-10 hours each day.
Can't think how to reduce it any more really. It's a draughty, 4 bed, detached house. The insulation is poor as far as walls go and not much I can do about that. Loft is lagged and most windows are double-glazed.
I'm just hoping that the summer months will balance it out as I pay by DD but I think it is the overall increase in fuel prices that have made such an astronomic difference.
Atlantic put up their prices on 1st Jan. Does anyone know if they have any more planned? I've got a feeling the 1st Jan hike was in response to BG putting up their prices up pre-Xmas and now BG have done it again, I think Atlantic probably will too in the not too distant future. Once they have, I'll look at switching yet again.
It's seemed like a v. long winter to me so far!0 -

As previously posted...is it an estimated bill? If it is check the meter reading yourself to see if they have estimated it wrong! They should base their estimates on previous usage, but you may not have had an official read for some time & they will probably base their estimate on what an average 4 bed household use (they are not to know what your specific usage habits are!).
As a side note, with all the price changes, it is even more important to ensure that your bills are accurate, so that you don't end up overpaying.0 -
Thanks manic.
Sadly it's not an estimated reading - someone came to read the meter last week.
Will just have to hope we have a warm spring/summer this year!0 -

If you think that it's high, I would still check the reading yourself, they may have entered it wrong!!0 -
Rented 2 bed flat with heating on all day and until 11pm but radiators temperature-controlled, double glazing throughout flat and we got our first bill for a month based on actual meter reading, of 60 pounds. Br Gas. Have now moved to dual fuel fixed price with London Energy and fearfully wait for next instalment.
London Energy is EDF right? We moved from France where flat of similar size but with communal boiler cost 60 euros per 1/4. Why's it so much more here with same co?
Plus is it a false economy to turn off the boiler for several hours and then turn it on when the rooms are very cold, or is it better to leave it on all day with the radiators on low?
The plumber who came to do the boiler service said this type of boiler is not energy efficient. Nothing I can do about that but if ever buy a place, how much difference does the make/type of boiler make?
Maybe we should move to electric heating b4 the gas runs out!
A warning: LE had put us on duel fuel but without the price fix so if you've switched b4 the prices go up (they went up this week I think) check what tariff you got. Is there any way they can put prices up despite the fixed price contract, say if gas prices go through the roof this or next year?0 -
We have a 5 bedroom well insulated house. At the new higher prices we seem to be using about £770 of gas per annum. The winter quarter accounts for about £325 of this. We have CH and HW by gas but electric cooking. The CH is on about 8 hours per day in winter ( 06.00- 09.00 and 17.00 - 22.00 ).Mostly there is just 2 of us using the hot water.
We have used a little more this year as it has been cold, but the biggest increase is due to the price rises.0 -
We've just got our first Scottish Power bill and for a seven day period we've been charged £48 for gas usage (!). I'm beginning to think our Worcester-Bosch combi needs an engineer to look at it.
