Does anyone know approx the cost of gas bill for a 3 bed semi? We are with British Gas and have just had my last quarterly bill and it is for £248. THis seems alot to me as we only have the heating on for a couple of hrs at night and cook with it.

The bills always seem big I am beginning to wonder if we are paying for next door aswell! could this happen?!

Need to change suppliers I think but it seems alittle daunting.......

Do I just pay up as usual?

TIA
Nice to save.

Check the meter reading on your bill against the actual reading, the bill might be based on an over-estimate. I use about 21,000kwh/year @ about £700 (not BG) for a 3-bed semi with GCH ( on about 8 hrs/day) and gas cooker.

Why don't you simply read your meters tomorrow and then do it again in a weeks time, to see what your actual consumptions is and then work out the cost for yourself. There is nothing stopping you providing a meter reading to your suppliers and if your last bill was based on estimated readings, they would recalculate it.

i am in a three bed semi on my own but heating on day and night, not very high and less all night, heat water too 1 1/4 hrs a day dont cook with it though and my bill just in was £102 from hydro electric that was the winter quarter
  • We live in a 3 bed terraced, gas heating and hob. Recent gas bill was £100, but the electric was a BIG shock, £270. Both bills correct acording to meter readings. We are bith BG dual fuel. Soon as all price increases announced we are moving. Wasn't well enough to change last time around.
  • Hi
I live in a 3 bed semi, my gas bill last week was £139.36, I'm with SWEB, I was quite pleased with it, central heating & gas cooker, plus fire but rarely used.
We have our heating on timer, about 14hrs a day,
Changed to SWEB over the internet, very painless, they did everything from getting in touch with old supplier to changing to them.
Nice and easy, and I believe cost saving.

    Hope this helps

In order to change supplier you need to know your annual consumption in kwh for an accurate comparison.

I work for a British Gas and anyone who needs this figure can email me with their property number and postcode and I will provide it based on transco records. This is only something that I am able to lookup for BG customers (data access restrictions) and it must be for your own address please.

I am providing this data free as an individual not as an employee of the company.

am currently with Npower. they just (helpfully) gave us a 4 month bill instead of a 3 month... have been using gas cooker, have a gas fire that is on often and use the heating for an hour in the morning and a few hours at night.
bill was 185ish, was slightly underestimated so have kept quiet as next quarter will be cheaper.

don't know if this comparison helps - as said check the meter

What you need to remember is that if the util companies have increased gas prices.
Eg 50% rise then you should expect your bills to rise accordingly. £40 per month last year is now £60, but many people have not increased their DD payments by 50%.
A lot of people forget to factor this in. I would say 100-200 is perfectly reasonable for the winter quarters given current prices.

You do not state whether your current bill is an estimate - if it is supply your own read.
If it isn't, was your LAST bill an estimate - it may have been some way under the correct read which has now been caught up with on the current read.
Did you get a credit refund in the summer? A lot of people do, but actually being in credit through the summer helps offset the winter bill.
It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.

Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.
