Large paypal transfers?

I'm in the processing of selling some expensive items. The buyer is overseas so will have to use paypal to get the money through. Is there any problems with doing this? Am I likely to get it stopped by paypal or something as obviously its a lot of money to get stopped.

Thanks for any help

Paypal offers little or no protection to sellers, and will take the money back off you for a variety of reasons.

Be very careful and go for a bank transfer if possible

    How large is large ?

Anti-money laundering checks may be made whether you are accepting via Paypal or bank transfer if large , out of character, payments are received.

about £2,000. Its for software licenses and the person buying is from Canada. Looks legitimate but don't want the payment to be held.

If they did stop the money I can still claim it back right? I've just heard too many horror stories yet haven't had any problems myself in over 300 transactions (albeit smaller ones)

Bank transfer is best bet - once you have it, it can't be reveresed.

If they did reverse a payment then you would still have the right to claim, but the cost of sueing someone in Canada is likely to be more than the value of your item.

I think its only ebay payments that get frozen. Try and get them to make a personal payment and you wont get charged a fee.
  • ^ but that'd leave the buyer with no protection... It's good for the seller though, I suppose.
You could try that, OP, but if they're an experienced ebayer I doubt they'd agree, and it might make you seem like you're trying to scam them...

Well had the first payment of just over £500 and the next will be closer to £2k so fingers crossed. Now I just need to work out the best way to post documents to Canada so I know they get there okay. Either Royal Mail airsure or Royal Mail international signed for.

How strange. According to some stuff I find on paypal help any transactions over £1700 will be stopped yet this has gone straight through no problem. On looking on google some people have had transactions stopped for verification others have gone through no problem.

Money has been received anyway, and is now pending transfer to bank account. Fingers crossed!
  • should have gone down the pidgeon route
