I've just googled this and made myself more confused, lol, found this table:
http://image.guardian.co.uk/sys-files/Guardian/documents/2008/03/14/Whatwillyouhavetopay.pdf
and i've confuddled myself into reading it as if tax will go down for some cars? We have an 04 Ulysee people carrier and according to the site indicated on the above table that is 195 g/km £210 a year then goes down? Or are those amounts the increase on top for the year?
Argh, I hate budget time.0 -

thanks, just got mine online, il check tommorow to see how much it went up by0

I'm mad, I went online earlier this afternoon to renew mine to avoid any increases and it said there was no valid MOT certificate so I rang the unhelpline and explained I had one which expires next month. Their response was too bad, nothing they could do I'd have to take it to a Post Office. The earliest I can do that is Friday so it looks like I'll have to stump up the extra:mad:0

I just used the above site and accoding to that my reading is 229 - but I can't work out the table at all!! - atm I just pay the standard 101 for 6 months - can anyone work out what I will be paying for me please? car was registered in 2000, (my tax runs out end of this month but I was waiting til end of month to tax it, however if it's going up a massive amount I will have to do it now) Thanks.x
Googled about and found my own answer - cars registered before March 2001 do not fall into the graded car tax so thats why I couldn't work it out - looks like most mine will go up is by £5.00 which I can live with (and my car waiting to be put together in the garage is a peugeot 107 which should be tax free when it's done!!)
Latest: Road tax changes delayed in Pre-Budget Report
In the Pre-Budget Report, in November 2008, Chancellor Alistair Darling said that a wider range of car tax bands reflecting fuel efficiency would still be introduced, but all rates would go up by a maximum of just £5 in April 2009. The most polluting cars will then only see a maximum rise of £30 in 2010, however no guarantees of what will happen to car tax in 2011 and beyond have been given.0 -
Blimey - don't pay for 6 months tax.0

I completely forgot about this - I will drop a band so should have waited
Maybe he'll forget to start it today...
