    HI rachel,

I think the coolbox would probably be the simplest way to go. Do you have a freezer to freeze the blue blocks to keep things cool? This thread has some good ideas:

I'll add your thread to it later to keep the suggestions together.

This happened to me weds night but my freezer went too!
My parents had a spare freezer for me so thats now sorted but i cant get their spare fridge 'til tues (they are buying a new one) so we are living out of a cool box and its so annoying! I've stored most of the fridge items with mum but as we are both effectively getting new fridges tues neither of us will have a 'working' one for 24hrs after...so we are both hoping nan has room!!

It may work if you buy small amounts of stuff daily, milk etc. Any food that needs defrosting do it in the coolbox so it helps keep the other items cool. Don't try to keep anything in there for more than about a day - though butter and marge should last longer. Get some ice made as well and keep some in a bag on top of the food.

It's not the end of the world to shop daily for a few days, after all fridges haven't been arround that long (milk used to be kept in an earthernware pot with water in and a cloth over, kept cool by evaporation.)

It's not long to wait. I should buy milk daily or get UHT ( nice in coffee).

It's so blinking cold here in North Wales nothing will go off!

Ask around. I managed to borrow a beer fridge and cola fridge when mine went. People often have them in garages, conservatories etc. Technically they are not food grade, but might tide you over.
Depression is well Depressing. So I go shopping. Then I realise how much debt I'm in. Then my depression hits low and so I go shopping...

Thank you all for your suggestions!

I actually found mum's coolbox in my attic:o and so its been washed out and the blue block thingies are in the freezer (thankfully we have separate fridge and freezer).
I'll go through what's in the fridge in a minute and if I can't think of anything to do with the bits I'll shout!

Good job I like sweaty cheese (reminds me of my grandad who kept his in a butter dish in the cupboard - bless)!!

Good idea about the extra ice and defrosting in the coolbox to keep it cooler - I'll do that now.

If you are not on a water meter then filling the sink with very cold water will keep your milk and drinks cold in this heat and use your cool box for butter cheese etc. Don't forget to chance the water regular if you go with this
Why pay full price when you may get it YS ;)

give the dead fridge a good clean then put a couple of bags of ice in a plastic bucket/tub in the bottom. As long as you don't open the door too often it should work exactly the same as a fridge

Another couple of ideas I have used when fridgeless -
If you have one litre orange juice blocks etc - freeze these and then pop them in any insulated container to keep things v. cold. [Cold boxes, supermarket freezer bags] I still do this to keep extra supplies of cold drinks cold when the fridge is overful. They do not seem to suffer from being frozen and defrosed a few times before being drunk as usual.
If you have a cellar - lots of things can be kept down there. [opened bottles of ketchup, salad ingredients etc] Mine is the same low temperature summer and winter.
