18866 & 1899  NTL & Telewest customer

Has the £0.05 per minute charge to landlines now been removed for NTL and Telewest customers? Websites seem to suggest it has.

I wouldn't have thought so. Though you may have to dial the 0808 freephone access number, rather than the 18866 access code.

If you were a BT customer you would be able to dial a UK number via 18866.com at 1p untimed, and 1899.com for 3p untimed.

Because you're a non BT customer you will have to dial via the 0808 number and that means you get charged by the minute by both 18866 and 1899.

I've been dialling the 0808 access numbers and have been charged £0.05 per minute to UK landlines plus the connection charge. Now the charge has been removed - have just made call and it was confirmed as a free call.

You'll find that the charge has not been removed. There will be a 1p or 3p connection charge for 18866 or 1899 respectively, and you will be charged by the minute. You can check the charge for any calls you make via these two providers on-line. Try it and see what the charge is.

I've just checked my account and I was charged only the connection fee for a 10 minute call. This means that customers with NTL and Telewest lines are now being treated the same as BT customers in respect of UK landline calls.

Yes I guess it does mean that. But neither 18866 nor 1899 state that to be the case.
