The seal & dolphin centre at north kessock was run by the Highland Council, until the end of last season when they decided to withdraw funding.

Apparently some dolphin charity is taking over it's running (if they haven't already). Not sure if the opening hours will be as long though

The Whale & Dolphin Conservation Society (WDCS) has taken over the running of the Dolphin & Seal Centre at North Kessock.

It normally opens on 1st June and closes on September 30th.

When we go on our annual hols to Scotland, we stay in Aviemore. It is an excellent location for visiting the sites mentioned in my earlier postings. Contact the Aviemore Tourist Information Centre for accommodation information and wildlife leaflets and brochures.

where do u stay in aviemore,i stay here all year round?

this is a great sight for dolphin sightings around the country. I use it all the time up here in Aberdeenshire. http://www.seawatchfoundation.org.uk/recentsightings.php

Other great places to look for fauna are:

Glen Tannar - crossbills, otters along the river, crested tits occasionally in the forests up the slopes.
    Lochnagar - rare Cappicailles, ptarmigans
Back of Bennachie - Ospreys fishing in the river

I could go on, but I've got to keep some of them secret. Just remember if you do go to any of theses, they are wild places, please leave them as you found them, if not cleaner.

For those visitors to Scotland not afraid of a boat trip, you can't beat the Orkney islands for wild life some, such as the Orkney vole, seen nowhere else on Earth.

You also get wonderful archaeology thrown in for the one fare over. Of course for non-boaters you can always take the plane, if your bank balance is sufficiently comfortable to take the scare.
If you make it as far north as Orkney, then carry on up to the northernmost place in the UK - Shetland. Featured on last year's 'Springwatch'. Great for wildife in general - seabirds, including puffins; otters, whales, dolphins. Also archaelogy, music, fishing, stunning seascapes, deserted beaches, etc. Traditions such as Up Helly Aa.

We saw pine marten and badgers in April 2011 during the Wildlife Watching experience on the Rothiemurchus estate, which is near Aviemore.

Rothiemurchus is teeming with the most fantastic wildlife, plant and animal, in one of the most beautiful areas of Scotland.

For a truly unique experience to look for Pine Marten, Badger, Red and Roe Deer and much more, you may book a special Speyside Wildlife Watching experience.

Click 'On Land' and 'Wildlife Watching' from the left margin options.

Thread from the dead - sorry

but just to say i used to live in the middle of the highlands and i can certainly say that all the places mentioned are amazing. I take it for granted really but should appreciate it more.
