hi,
just a quick question which i hope some one can answer for me if possible.
i have been reading that the new 8mb max speeds which bt are about to lauch on the 31st march may result in some poor gaming and increased pings by 20-40ms which make it difficult to use gaming on the new 8mb line. can madasafish please let us know which interleaving option they are using for the 8mb max service and what effect this will have on the gaming performance?
i also posted this on adslguide.com
cheers in advance for any help anyone can give me.
i found the post which will explain what i mean below:
Did some reading of BT SINs ....
Datastream and IPStream Max and Max Premium are provided in Fast mode, but can be changed to interleaved mode when BT is dealing with a problematic line, unless the customer has opted out of interleaving.
There are 3 interleave options, available on a per line basis - Auto, opt-out and opt-in. Auto is default. Opt-in will retain interleaving during any fault finding work.
Opt-out is available on a per-line basis tick box on the Service Provider gateway, at provision or in-life, or by a “Modify Order”.
Interleaving will add 20 to 40ms to the ping time while enhancing performance of error sensitive applications like video streaming. Using interleaving as part of "dynamic line management" may allow a line to be stabilised without reducing speed. Otherwise speed reductions of ~800k may be expected to improve stability.
Use of interleaving will reduce the maximum speed from 8128 to 7616 kbits/s ATM rate, other speeds are not affected by turning interleaving on/off.

Hi
Okay this is an interesting query. I'll need to check with our resident Broadband / BT Max / Gaming expert (yes he does exist) who no doubt will have a worryingly detailed response.
If you can leave this one with me i'll get an update posted on Monday.
Best regards

Afternoon,
Our testing of BT's Max 8Mb service has shown that interleaving does not appear to have had a noticeable or adverse impact with online gaming. We have also received feedback from another broadband user who works for Microsoft, testing the Xbox Live service. Their line has got interleaving option turned on and they have experienced no issues gaming online with Xbox Live.
Madasafish is currently finalising their plans regarding the interleaving options, although it is likely that we will implement interleaving by default. This decision is dependent on confirmation from BT that we can remove interleaving on a case by case basis if needed. As soon as we have an anwer to this, we will update the forum accordingly.
I hope this helps.
Best regards
