Ask a CCCS counsellor a bankruptcy question

Hi back again. I contacted experian and equifax, both said my insolvancy was removed automaticaly after years as you said, however, I had applied online to Natwest, and in answer to one of the questions--have you ever been bankrupt I was honest and said yes! Experian said I should not have disclosed this information as it had been discharged. NatWest have obviously red flagged this information in some way, and THATS why the Co Op bank declined me today! Experian are annoyed to say the least that their name is being bandied about when its nothing to do with them, and have advised me to appeal their decision stating they were wrong to use the information as it was discharged 8 years ago, and no longer relavent. If they still refuse me an account, where do I go from there?
Problem with natwest doing everything online they usually will turn someone down if you answer "have you ever been bankrupt" go to your local branch & apply again for a basic account in branch & ask thye staff to process the paperwork by hand instead of using a computer...you WILL then receive an account (I did)We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0 -
On the advice from Experian, I have made an appeal against NatWest declining my application, and told them to remove my insolvancy from their records and anywhere else they have recorded it as it is no longer relavent. Awaiting their decision.0

I initllialy applied online, then went into local branch with all documentation 2 days later.0

any discharged bankrupt WILL usually be turned down if you apply online or the application is processed by computer...hence why I suggested you go to your local branch and start the process again from scratchWe all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0

All banks in the UK sign up to something called the banking code. I have attached a link to a booklet that explains all the ins and outs of this for you. http://www.bankingcode.org.uk/pdfdocs/BANKING CODE.pdf
In section three (page 7) it states that if you specifically ask for a basic bank you should have one as long as you meet the criteria.
The following booklet lists most of the banks and some of the criteria they look for (page 5), so for example Coop will allow undischarged bankrupts and Natwest you have to be discharged which you are.
http://www.moneymadeclear.fsa.gov.uk/pdfs/bank_accounts.pdf
All banks have signed up to this, so you could try and writing a formal letter to them and ask if they can give you further information on their criteria and make a complaint. It may also be worth printing out these booklets and highlighting the relevant sections.
Are you specifically asking for a basic account?
Hope this helps

Thanks for your budget and message.
I would recommend that you call for an appointment with these figures and we maybe able to get you straight through to a counsellor. Most of the figures are fine, there are a couple that are slightly high ie phones etc but your counsellor will discuss these with you.
If you would like an appointment please call 0800 138 1111.

Hi,
I am in the process of getting the money together to go BR and we have found a lovely rental for me, my partner and our 2 girls. Both of us are needing to declare BR.
We currently own our home, but the mortgage and 2 secured debts on the house (plus our unsecured) are crippling us and we have decided (with advise) to move out and rent.
The property is in neg equity, so I understand that any mortgage / secured loan shortfall will be covered by BR.
The rental is available from the 25th May'10.
Do we petition for BR before we move out or after we move out ? Does it make a difference ? What is the best way to do this ? Pro's and con's wise.
Any advise would be apprecaited.
