Been with Talk Talk for phone since 2007 no problems
went to Talk Talk Broadband on April 3 and since then the phone line is all crackly and it echo's
also the Broadband fails to connect a lot of the time,
called them last week and they said it was fixed but it is still the same,
called them again today and am getting nowhere,
If I cancel the Broadband will they restore my line to BT ??
and will I be able to get Broadband from another supplier
If I had known they were changing the line from BT I would never have bothered
Does anyone have the number for UK based Cistomer sevice ?
any advice appreciated,
Thanks

I had the same problem with Talk Talk, I had tre crackly phone line as well, they did numerous checks on the line and nothing improved, they kept telling me we've checked the line and there doesn't appear to be a problem with it. As I was ringing from the landline and could hardly hear them for the interference that wasn't true, they were having to ring me back on my mobile, after 2 weeks of these checks they finally told me it was a problem externally and not internally, I got so cheesed off I told them to cancel it all as I was sick of spending my evenings ringing them and trying to sort it out, I was on a contract that hadn't finished and I told them they better not try charging me for cancelling, they tried and I rung back to say it better be cancelled this time as I'd done everything I could to rectify the situation, and surprise surprise they did. I'm now on mobile broadband and it is much better for me.
Good luck if you try to get it fixed.0 -
I realise that you may have already been through the Talk talk Script but have you checked the microfilters (the little boxes that split the broadband signal from the telephone)
You will need one on all extension sockets including any Sky boxes.
There is a BT guide here that may be useful.

I've got real problems with Talk Talk broadband also. It is a really intermittent service and goes up and down enough to making surfing really frustrating.
I have microfilters on all my sockets.
I have called Talk Talk several times and have been told they can do no more and it's to do with my phone line. I was with Virgin for many years and wished to goodness I'd stayed with them.
Can anyone tell my why, when it's all using the same phone line as Virgin was, that the connection is now so bad? How do I get in touch with the Talk Talk rep on this site please?0 -

Are you talking about Virgin National or Virgin Media? If the former, it can't be the same line, as VM is a cable service.
If you have noise on the line you should raise a complaint with the company supplying your line rental-not clear if that is TT or BT?No free lunch, and no free laptop

Send her a Private Message outlining your problem.
I did this on behalf of an frustrated TT customer who was having problems similar to yours.
The TT Rep arranged for tests to be carried out and there was some repetition but be patient because the outcome should be monitored at a higher level.
Best of luck"It's nice to be important but more important to be nice"

Thanks for replying macman. I don't have cable both Virgin and Talk Talk broadband is adsl. I pay Talk Talk for home phone (inc line rental) and broadband. I took up the Friends and Family offered detailed on this site. I don't have crackling on the phone line, it's fine.0

Right, so you were on Virgin National. Suggest you retest your broadband connection with the router connected to the BT test socket behind the master socket faceplate. If the problem goes away, it's your internal wiring at fault. if it doesn't, then the line outside may have a fault and you need to escalate your complaint within TT. If TT have already agreed it is an external line fault, then why don't you insist they get BT out to check it?
I'm assuming you've already checked and swapped all your filters, as that is a common cause of problems. Do you have working filters on all your active extensions? No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thank you so much for your help macman. I am going to try swapping the filters.
How do you connect the router to the BT test socket behind the master socket faceplate? Is it easy?0 -

You just unscrew the lower part of the faceplate, it comes away and the test socket is situated lower right. then plug your router into that socket. But don't do this unless you've got a modern master socket with split faceplate. No free lunch, and no free laptop
