  • Could you do this for me.
    1. Click START and select RUN
    2. In the Run box that appears type CMD and click OK
    3. You should now see a new command window (should be black with white text)
    4. Type in IPCONFIG and press the ENTER/RETURN key
    5. Copy and paste the results into here

This should tell us if your computer can see the the wireless card. What you should see is something like the example from my computer below. The part I've highlighted in blue is my wireless card, you should have something similar.

The part I've highlighted in green is the IP address which allows this computer to talk on the network, and therefore the internet, we're expecting to see something like 192.168.xxx.xxx if all is well. If not it'll tell us whats wrong.

errrm very untechie answer here, so please don't shout.
when ours does this we turn off the router and the pc, then turn them back on again and it seems to work, maybe woth a go?
Every once in a while my laptop loses its connection and can't see the router. But the desktop (wired) is fine and connects to the internet okay so I presume its specifically a wireless issue.
If I cycle the power on the router the laptop reconnects fine. The peculiar thing is that within the hour the same thing happens again. If I power down/up on the router its fine again and stays that way.
Very odd and don't ask me why but it works

Next time that happens, follow the steps I mentioned in the post above yours. But when you get to step 4, instead of just typing IPCONFIG do this:
    1. Type IPCONFIG /RELEASE and press ENTER/RETURN
    2. Type IPCONFIG /RENEW and press ENTER/RETURN

When done try and connect to the internet again. If it works then the problem is your computer, if not then as you thought it may well be your router. If so it might be worth seeing if a firmware upgrade is available which may resolve this issue.

    OK, lets try something else.

    - Plug the ethernet cable from the PC into the router.
    - Open up internet explorer
    - in the address bar type http://192.168.0.1 this should get you to the admin screen of yuor router (it may be http://192.168.1.1 but you can check this by going to a command prompt (go to run and type cmd) and type ipconfig/all this will show you (under defautl gateway) what the ip address of the router is)
    - on the admin screen (IIRC, its been a while since I set a Virgin router up) you should be able to change the password. This is the password you need to connect to the router through a wireless connection.

    Hopefully that makes sense

Thank you very much :T This worked and main pc working wirelessly now :D
