Renting where Pets are allowed? Brighton?

I am looking at moving to Brighton from Cambridge, i want to Rent to start off with but i have 2 cats and a couple of guinea pigs, i have tried looking for pet friendly places on the internet and not found much at all!
does anyone know a good way of finding landlords who accept pets?
And also does anyone know the cheaper places near brighton to live? I am looking at within 5-10miles radius of Brighton+Hove.
Any advice greatly appreiciated!

  • You'd probably do well finding a property and asking personally whether or not they allow for 'consideration', I'm not sure whether or not the person letting has to have any sort of extra license to allow for pets, but I'm sure if you told them about the pets; you just have 2 cats and some guinea pigs, they may be lenient, obviously you won't be 100% lucky, but I'm sure there are people who stick 'no pets' as a sort of "We don't want someone with noisy dogs and 1000 cats making it smell" but they could probably be easily persuaded otherwise, after all, every day the place is empty, they loose money ;)

Stay away from purpose built flats. The freeholder may (they normally do) have made no pets a condition of the head lease so potential LLs have no room for manoeuver.

You may need to provide a slightly larger deposit.

Most adverts for places for rent seem to specify 'no pets', but this just seems to be a standard thing that LA s in particular tend to put in the details. If you enquire, you may well find that the LLs do not necessarily object to pets, or at least the sort that will not annoy the neighbours, unless the place is really done up to the nines and especially 'precious'. You can always ask! My DD rents, and has moved loads of times (her choice, she just seems to like moving ) and she has a little dog and 2 ferrets (3 chickens as well now). She has been upfront with all LLs and none have objected, though one did ask for extra deposit, which was fair enough. All these properties have been in rural areas and had gardens I hasten to add . I am a LL myself, and my tenants have a cat, which I have no problem with (though as it is a terraced house, I would not have accepted a large barking or aggressive dog that would bother the neighbours or possibly cause danger).

So I would just ask if you see a property you are interested in!

I have a Dog and when I was looking to private rent last year most wouldn't touch me with a barge pole, the only ones that would had grotty houses at the same price knowing people with pets would have no option other than to pay over the odds.

I'm renting with a dog and had no problems. Guess it depends on the landlord and the dog ;)

Alot of Estate Agents put 'no pets' in their blurbs for each property as standard - I noticed this whilst looking and thought we wouldn't be able to find anywhere. When I actually rang the Est Agents for the houses we liked they said they would get back to us and checked with the landlord..

I've had a few who don't like it (I suppose they have experienced horror stories and don't realise we are not all irresponsible!) but never really had much problem finding anywhere at all. It helps if you are willing to put up an extra deposit, or get a reference from a past landlord to say the pets caused no damage.

    Good luck! :o

Good luck :/ I don't know if it's just my area but for months now I haven't found one place that will take my dog. He's perfectly trained, really lovely, doesn't bark I even have a reference from where I am now and not one estate agent or land lord has been able to help me :/ And that's houses with gardens not even flats :/
