Hmm I did think that, maybe he has changed it on purpose as why else would he do it? but of course would never say that to my friend. She is upset enough about him being away.

If this were mine and he wasn't contactable and I couldn't guess the password I'd extract my data, backup the machine using Acronis TrueImage or similar so if it became desperate his data could be recovered then use the recovery media to set it all back to factory defaults.

Acronis true image crashed my laptop,apparently, its not compatible with vista.

Must have been a pretty old version of True Image, versions 9 & 10 were patched to support Vista in early 2007, from memory.

True, but they might be having trouble installing updates and being left with an unsecure computer..
