Don't have more than one AV program installed at once. You will be just asking for problems!!!
Ive had AVG and EZ-Armor running side by side for a few months now, no problems so far touch wood!
Previously i was running AVG on its own, and viruses/trojans kept getting past it, since i've had both running together, i havent got any nasties. Though it could be all thanks to EZ-Armor as it autoupdates itself every hour
Though i feel a bit safer having 2 barriers up, and also got zone alarm running, and that definitely helps out a lot too. My computer is quite old, 500Mhz with 512Meg ram and it doesnt suffer from any slowdown, even with all that security stuff running. 0 -
Thanks, Sonic! I renewed my subscription for Norton AV in April, so it does'nt expire until April 2005. I had'nt actually considered it a bit odd that, though I subscribed this year, I now have the 2002 version. ???
It only cost me around £15 for the year which is sort of why I went for it(removes Scrooge hat and shuffles feet, embarrassedly ::)). Maybe £15 does'nt merit an up-to-date version........BTW, it is the Symantec one.
So, I'm perfectly happy to buy the one you recommend if it will make me a safer surfer! Think I should go for it?
That's up to how you feel. If you are happy with your older version, that is clearly still supported by Symantec, then thats fine. WIll be using any of the additional features described by me in the previous post? Do you want a firewall (recommended), do you have kids using the PC?
I don't know how long Symantec will continue to support the 2002 version though. What you might want to do is to wait until your updates expire in April, and then look at the situation again. By then, Norton Internet Secuirty, anti virus etc will be on version 2005 anyway.
Just make sure that you are getting your regular updates on your current version. Better to be safe that sorry. ;D
When you do come to buy your new version (if you choose too), try looking on EBay as well, but make sure they are new and sealed, a version that has already been registered is not a lot of use to you!

I bought McAfee for my new XP machine but didn't pay the subscription 12 months later because there had been constant screen messages about problems caused by some McAfee compatibility thing. Someone recommended AVG which looked pretty and seemed to do busy things but after getting viruses twice, which AVG reported but couldn't disinfect, and having to pay to get rid of them, I let the man install Panda AV, which includes firewall, for £20 or was it £25. Impressed! and horrified - the number of attacks it reports and fends off (with polite little info boxes that glide in and away) and the number of viruses it quarantines and heals, which I didn't even know was happening before. It takes a lot longer than AVG did, to do its scheduled scans. It auto-updates at least once a day, typically adding 40 new virus signatures every day. The amount of spam I'm getting has gone down dramatically - why should that be? When I got to look at the log file, it turned out it had also been blocking MS Works' attempts to phone home at 10min intervals to daddy Gates, so I deleted Works - who put it there, anyway? Panda - so far, so very good.
