So assuming 10000miles per annum at 30mpg at £5/gallon, and also assuming a minimum loss off 5% fuel consumption means it costs over £200 per year to run?????.

I'll take the dosh and my shirt off;););)

Eh? How does that add up?

    10,000 / 30 = 333.33 gallons per year.

    x £5 = £1,666.66 per year.

    5% of 1,666.66 = £83.33?

I have tried the halfords ones and they only last a few weeks, before the smell is back.

As above I dont mind spending on my car as its my pride and joy. I would rather have a proper job done at the specialist, rather than tackeling something myself I dont feel comfortable with.

    Each to there own.

I also have the aircon on all year round, so my system works full time all the time.

Then you have a problem, possibly drain holes blocked. The system should not smell if it is regularly used.

To be pedantic, there is no specific amount by which using aircon reduces the mpg since its use is a function of time not distance.

Using your aircon for an an hour will use the same amount of fuel, whether you have been stuck in traffic and only gone 5 miles, or been zooming down the motorway at 70mph.

So the cost is down to how long the aircon is on for, not how far you have driven with the aircon on. Figures I have seen quote the fuel useage on a hot day with the aircon going full blast, to be around 0.4 litres of fuel per hour.

:rolleyes::rolleyes: No, be even more pedantic, it's more complicated that that.
You forget that when accelarating or at a standstill you are paying to run the AC. However when off throttle and braking it's free and even adds slightly to the engine braking effect, thereby slightly reducing the footbrake effort required???

    Now thats pedantic ;););)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
