No you don't but you do need a subscription to xboxlive
  • From the Xbox site :
You must have the following prerequisites to create an Xbox LIVE-enabled profile:
    • An Xbox 360 Memory Unit or Xbox 360 Hard Drive to store profile information about the Xbox 360 console

So you have an arcade? All you need is storage of some sort, could be Hard Disk or Memory Unit.
Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.

All you need is either a memory card or Hard drive. The memory card will have enough space for your user profiles to be saved on and thats about it. Where as a hard drive which is a little more but worth it gives greater room and then youll be able to download demos and other things depending what size you get. if you have no intention of buying the films and other things on offer but just download a demo here and there to try whats on offer before spending the money on the full game then its worth getting the 20gb one

Yes, if you wish to start downloading demos etc which are bigger then you will need a hard drive. But yes you can get online.

On a side note don't the new models have 256MB memory onboard? or did I imagine that?

as percy says the memory unit is fine if you wont be downloading any demos etc, all the unit needs to hold is the xbox live profile,

    Hello everyone

Please take pity on a complete simpleton Mum (me). My DS (11) has begged and begged me for Xbox Live and I keep saying no. Why? Because I don't know how to do it. I've tried a couple of times and got quite far (getting a windows live name and stuff) but then I just fail, fail, fail. Anyone know where I can rent-a-teenager?:o

Can you be a bit more specific as to where it fails?
