Cars are such a liability! Bikes too for that matter

Prompted by a post on the OS grocery challenge I went outside to see if my strawberries had done anything - last year we only got 1 or 2.

So I was very pleased to see that amongst the overgrown stuff, is a bumper crop of strawbs!

Prompted further, I have posted on the greenfingers board about what else I can plant at this late stage to grow and subsequently reduce my shopping bill.........I will report back on whether this is a "nice idea in theory" or whether I actually get anything done!

  • Hi Hypno et al, hope DS is feeling better today. What that boy did was personal assault and he should be treated as if it was serious. The Police will try and brush it under the carpet, but you can do quite a bit. God help him if he had dropped a tenner in the street, the plod would be all over him with £50 fine and bailiffs if he didn't pay up.

Hi hypno - thanks for the warm welcome! I have been away kinda properly though very occasionally have a quick peek at stuff.

Hips...? No, think that was someone else sweetie. But I am in the same job that I had started the last time I updated. For now. Not sure what the next few months will bring as, like everyone else, we've been somewhat hit by economic downturn and not sure if redundancies are on the cards.

Overdraft is...a bit out of control again! It's the bane of my life to be honest. There's just always something isn't there? If it's not the house it's the car, if it's not the car it's stuff for 'you' i.e. dentist or whatnot, and if it's not 'you' it's a WEDDING!! But not complaining at that last one....hooray! It's only a few months away now - how quick has it come around?? Very speedy.

I am so proud though as we have saved and saved and (touch wood) everything is bang on our modest budget and we won't (TOUCH WOOD AGAIN!) have to put a penny on credit card or overdraft. I have never saved so much in my life and I am very proud of myself (and fianc! of course although he's always been pretty good with money).

Anyway enough of me on YOUR diary! The cheek of it! lol

I really hope you are well and I can't stress strongly enough just how proud I am of you seeing your debt figure as low as it is now. It's amazing.

How do you feel when you look at that figure compared to a few years ago?

Hi LA, you sound very much in control of things - even the overdraft - it is much lower than it used to be, isn't it? When's the wedding?

As for my figures, some days it still seems as though we have a long way to go, some days I think bloody hell I've come a long way! I think we all have days where we are fed up of it....but the dangerous days are those when I feel as though the end is in sight, because they are the days I may end up taking my eye off the ball, and ending right back at square one again!

lucielle, the odd sock pile is still there........am not a miracle worker :rotfl:

The OD is lower than it used to be but that's just the figure for the moment - I still 'forecast' for the coming months and I can tell you that by the end of July it'll be well up again due to house repairs being done at the end of June. But hey ho - they need doing, we can't get away from it.

I never did reduce my overdraft (or if I did, which I can't remember doing, I got the limit raised again!) so we aren't in any danger of it going over the limit and incurring charges. The interest charged is really low too so at the moment there is no pressure but I am really scared at the moment about what the future holds and I know I've got to get the OD down. So what's new!! :rotfl:

I'll probably update my ramblings soon and stop hijacking your diary!

I can relate to what you are saying - feeling that there is still a long way to go. But you know you are soooo far past the Rubicon now, you can't go back! And again I empathise regarding the 'dangerous days'. Yes you really do need to keep an eye on those. I am thinking I might have to get something tangible to 'whip out' when I have a dangerous day to remind me of where I was and how quickly I could be there again. Urgh I don't know about you but it actually makes me feel physically sick to think of it!

I am long past the sleepless nights and nightmares about bailiffs! So that would have been my worst point......those sleepless nights were very frequent and obviously didn't do my physical or mental state any good! I have come a long way from that.....whilst we are still not out of the woods yet, our minimum repayments are now about £700 against £2200 at their worst, so that is a big big difference!!

    (especially when I don't even EARN £2200 a month!!)

In fact, it is a minor miracle that we managed to get this far without defaulting on anything really!!!

Aww bless you hypno - you really DO deserve that pat on the back and so much more.

Jeeeeeeze - from £2200 to £700. That is flippin' superb! I'm sitting here shaking my head in wonder I really am.

    Just....congratulations again really!
