    Thanks stripeylad,

I'm new here as well and can never get the results I want with the search facility!

Welcome to the site and I'm sure you will agree that the information on here is awesome. I'm just hoovering it all up and just hope I can give something back sometime, but it seems somebody always beats me to it :p:p

    I'll rephrase...

    welcome to the forum :D

but it is worth searching to see if anybody has posted the same thing before ;)
Thanks, that sounds so much better. Gets the point across in a helpful kind of way
    Can I help?

There is a guide to using search on MSE forums here:

It's worth having a look at. I was fooled for a long time because I kept using capitals. You have to search in lower case, i.e. to search for posts on say Firefox, you have to use firefox.

I asked about having this thread on searching as a sticky at the top of the Techie forum but the reply I got was that they want to keep the number of stickies manageable, which is a pity as I think it would be useful and may prevent people being put off using search as they dont think its working.

Stripeylad, I think the number of hits this thread has received in the last day or so is an indication that you were right to post even though it had been posted earlier.

Dont be put off and thanks for posting.

Either that or loads of people wanted to come in here, tell me it was already posted but decided against after seeing that someone had beaten them to it. Apologies for not searching in the first instance. I've learnt my lesson - honest. :o

I'm big enough not to let anything get to me so don't be worried about me being put off or offended. I wasn't by anybody's posts, but it's nice to see a community gather round in encouragement rather than to discourage. Makes a pleasant change from other forums I've been on. I'll keep on plucking away trying to find something somebody finds useful that hasn't been posted before.

That's why this is the only forum that I read and post on! Been a member for several years now and have yet to discover a better bunch who assist and help as much my fellow MSE friends. This is a first class forum and I, personally, will adhere to the prinicples that Martin set out to achieve: recieving help and helping others to reduce finanicial and other day-to-day situations.

Good for you. I think that illustrastes the difference between somebody with >3000 posts and somebody with 14
Let's be nice here and not put off people who are trying to be helpful.

Well I would never have known about this site if you hadn't posted. And I'm !!!!!!ed if I'm going to do a search every time I post something - better things to do with my time!
