Where to buy a domain name?

I need to buy a domain name for my business, but no idea which site to buy from, and do I need to rent space? I am reading confusing things on the web.
I have a personal domain name which I pay £20 per year to renew and for it to be hosted so I then edit the webspace myself, however someone bought this for me, so I have no idea how to start off!
Any advice? thanks in advance

You can buy a domain name from many places. I would consider using 1&1.co.uk.
If you then want to have a website you will need to host it somewhere. 1&1 also do web hosting.0 -
thank you
i will take a look there

what software are you familiar with, for editing and uploading your site?0

We resell domain names and webspace, using http://www.123-reg.co.uk/0

Literally a text editor and uploading via FTP. Although a techy friend suggested getting into DreamWeaver, but I think it may be too complicated for what we want to do.

Domainmonster are excellent, they do a website builder thing. But the most important stuff is that they are ICANN registered, the domains are properly registered instantly (1&1 are a bit dodgy on this, as are 123reg), and if you're doing your own hosting etc, the DNS etc are very good and very fast.
They're owned by Mesh, so it's a proper company.0 -

i have used some free templates in the past but don't think I can use them for the business site as I don't want the link to the free templates on the page
