Phantom phone calls!!

Hi, i know this has nothing to do with moneysaving, but i'm hoping that someone here could throw some light on a problem i have. I have had the same mobile number for some years, but occasionaly i get different people phoning me to say that the've had a missed call from my mobile number. The mobile is in my pocession at all times & is not used that frequently, maybe once a day. There is no way that i have made the calls in question, but they obviously don't believe me- infact one guy was really abusive & insisted that i had phoned him!
Has anyone else had this problem or any idea how it could happen?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Might be something like this http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=629413

I would be tempted to talk to your network provider and explain the problem, they probably have some experience on dealing with it.

There are a few VOIP providers who allow you to make cheap calls over the internet but you can specify which number you want them to look as though they come from. So you specify your own mobile number for example.(Can't remember providers, think voipcheap might have been one of these.) Anyway could be that someone meant to configure their own number but mis-typed it as yours?

If your number is not of any great importance to you, I would recommend changing the number - its the only guaranteed solution to the problem.

PS - Just reading other people's comments, you might try doing a complete reflash/reset of the phone ... in case it has any virus type stuff on it - so do a complete factory reset - and update the phone software.

My mobile literally started making calls on its own. Sitting on the table, for no apparent reason, with no one touching it, it would phone numbers ... it was really quite spooky. No one could expalin what was going on and I bought a new phone!

My OH had that problem with his last phone. It got to the point where he had to dial his own number after he had finished making a call, if he didn't the phone would randomly call the last dialled number-even when locked and on the table. He phoned the telephone company and they could not explain it. He now has a new phone (same number) and the problem appears to have gone.
