Cheers for the replies everyone.
I've ordered all the components and have to wait till Saturday morning now.
I didn't think I did too bad. I told Mrs Mundi I was looking around the £800 mark. I also ordered a new USB pen and paid £25 for Saturday delivery. Everything came to £856. She winced a bit when I told her I was also looking at 19" TFT screens so I'll leave this for a couple of weeks (I've got three 17" screens lying around spare). How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Shame about the XFX card. The biggest returned item at CCL.

At the time of ordering, I changed the graphic card spec. I don't play games on the PC, and figured that with the power of the rest of the machine, it would do everything I want. With the SLI option, it would give me more than enough options if I do decide to get into games without having to spend a fortune.
I ended up ordering THIS model. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

A 6600GT will be fine. It's the best mid to entry level card about. There can actually be a slight difference between manufacturers, but I'm sure you'll be fine with your choice.
I wouldn't worry about SLi too much, it's probably better just to buy a faster graphics card rather than a second 660GT."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -

At work I've been working in a range of flats putting right various bits before they are signed off by the contractor.
In one flat, the guy has built himself a machine recently. He used the same mobo as I've chosen, but installed 4GB of RAM and a 7800GT 512MB card. The graphics on his setup was amazing. Today when I went in his flat, he had bought a second card the same, and was in the process of setting them up in SLi. I will be back in his flat next week. I'll be interested to see how or if this setup makes any improvement to his computer.
I've got to say, I think his setup is over the top, each card cost around £500.How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Yeah SLi is never "double" the performance despite having twice as many cards.
For the extreme gamer maybe, but for the average person it's not worth the money. Something like a 7800GT (just by itself) should play most games flawlessly anyway."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
Cheers wolfman.................
I've set the hardware up (currently formatting). I can't believe how quite the Antec Sonata case is. I'm running it with the side off in the middle of the living room at the moment (setting it up there before I move it into my office), I can't hear a thing even when I'm standing next to it. This is an excellent case and definately gets my vote.
Now a bit of a rant....... Why don't case makers and mobo makers get together and agree ONE PLUG for all the case connections? They could leave out connections from the plug if the case doesn't support certain functions. I always find it so bl00dy fiddly with the present system!
