Can I record on 2 digital recorders seperately to my tv?

I have an old JVC TV (non digital) arial in and out + scart sockets 1 & 2, an Asda Dual digital recorder, I can watch one channel and record another, it has ariel in and out + 1 scart TV and 1 scart vcr. I have just picked up an old Humax 8300T and wondered if I could record on this as a second recorder? It has ariel in and out, scarts TV and VCR but can only record the channel you are watching. The programmes we watch are nearly all on at the same time and it would stop a lot of arguing if I could record two programmes and watch one! Can anyone tell me if I can do this and if so, tell me how to connect them up? Thanks.

Are you saying that your old JVC analogue TV has twin tuners? I find this hard to believe. If not, then you are recording not off the TV but off the tuner(s) in the digital recorder. if that has 2, then it should be possible to do what you want if you can fed the right channels output to your Humax? No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Yes you can, if I understand correctly you've a TV and 2 freeview recorders. I'll assume that the twin tuner is used more often and is higher quality, and that your TV's SCART1 is RGB - this means that you'll get better quality more often.
Plug the aerial socket at the wall into the Asda, then from the out of the Asda to the in of the Humax, then from the out of the Humax to the in of the JVC.
Plug the TV SCART of the Asda into SCART1 of the JVC, the the TV SCART of the Humax into SCART2 of the JVC.
That should do nicely, let us know how you get on...0 -
Macman - I have no idea if the tv is twin tuners but I wouldn't think so.
Almiller - it doesn't say whether it is RGB (what does that mean?), just 1 and 2. The Asda box is a cheapie whichis only a few months old and I only got the Humax because I saw it in a bootfair and I didn't realise it was single tuner until I got it home.
I am just going to try it and be back shortly with the results.0 -
Success! I can record on both recorders but the Asda screen keeps going round and round and sometimes it settles and sometimes it doesn't. The Humax records but stops if I turn it off. Asda keeps recording when I turn it off, cheapie but toughie! The screen is clearer depending which one I turn on, but I got confused after a while as to which one was best. I had to switch between AV, E1 and E2 to watch, but I presume that is normal.0

I have just found one of those leads which has one scart to plug in to the tv and three scart sockets on the other end, would it be better to use that?0

Found it impossible to watch Asda one last night, it just kept going round and round so had to take off the Humax. Thanks anyway.0

RGB stands for Red Green Blue and means that the picture is sent in higher quality, you may want to try to go into the Asda's settings to see if it can output RGB and if the screen will take it. Look under 'TV settings' or Display settings or similar. Many TVs have 1 SCART which takes RGB. I'll guess that the reason for the interference with the Asda is because the Humax is switched on. If it's switched off the Asda will be fine.
In this case, you can try recording 2 programmes on the Asda, with it switched off (in standby) and watch 1 on the Humax, then the Humax won't be interfering with the Asda's picture...0 -
I unplugged the Humax yesterday (DS moaning he couldn't watch a film he had taped) and the Asda screen was still going round and round, although it did settle eventually. Am going to have another go today and will check the RGB etc as suggested.0

I've done it! I think it might have been a loose cable that was making it go round and round. Thanks for all the the help.0
