Accepting buyers payment

I received a message from PayPal, although it had the payer's email address:

"Thanks for using PayPal. To accept this payment, you’ll need to upgrade to a Premier or Business account.
There is a fee associated with accepting payments."

1.How do I 'accept' this payment?

2. Why is Paypal doing this? As other payments a few months back did not have this message.

3. Does this mean from now, I will have to pay a larger fee?
Thanks

Have you reached your receiving limit of £1,700. If so you will have to upgrade to a premier account and go through a verification process which is quite simple, confirm your address and bank account.

Paypal fees are 20p per transaction plus 3.4% of the total amount. I cant remember if you already get charged this on a basic account

Your buyer has probably paid by credit card so you need to upgrade to accept it.

No, I sell very rarely as most of my items do not get bids. My accepting limit has not reached £100 never mind about £1700 to be honest!

Strange, as the other 2 payments from months ago have said something like "to accept debit or credit card payment..." (can't remember exact wording), I did not "upgrade" but still managed to have payment into Paypal.

    Any thoughts?

    Why is this happening?

    Edit:
    4. Is the amount in PayPal the total amount plus PayPal fees or the amount minus PayPal fees?? (Trying to work out the limit, but past year history not even £80 to be honest.)

    Total amount minus paypal fees.
As in, the amount you see in this box:
    paypal10.jpg

Is the amount you actually have.

Oh dear, there is some misunderstanding about paypal here.
There are three main types of account, the basic personal account that is all you need to buy on ebay then there is the premier account and business account.

The basic personal account can only receive payments from an existing paypal balance, so no payments can be received for cards, and that is of course not suitable for selling on ebay. Paypal allow two card payments into the personal account before they ask the receiver to upgrade and that is what has happened here. Now you have received the third payment then yes you just need to confirm you will upgrade and the payment will hit your account. However that payment and all future payments will attract the paypal fee that we all moan about on here.

Forget about limits etc at the moment, that is something entirely different and once you start reaching transaction limits you will just have to verify your account which is fairly simple and just means paypal make sure you are who you say you are, that doesn't change your account at all and makes no difference to the paypal fees you pay.

Therefore OP, upgrade and accept the payment and remember you will be paying paypal fees in the future when working out your profit.

"NOTE: All sellers must offer paypal on all listings apart from the car and vehicle categories. You will need a paypal premier account to sell and charges will be taken from each payment."

Soolin, sorry for being thick here but, do I upgrade to a premier or business account?

I logged into Paypal and the money is there? so is there a need to 'upgrade'? (I mean, after 30 days will the money still be there if I have not 'upgraded'??)

You need just a premier account not a business account. Once you have agreed to upgrade the payment will be accepted automatically, but you will then pay fees on every transaction via paypal in future.Unfortunately there is no way round this.

If you don't upgrade the payment will be returned to the buyer after 30 days, but obviously that will just seriously upset your buyer!

  • ""Note: You can have one Personal account and one Premier or Business account. However, each PayPal account must contain unique email addresses and financial information. You may upgrade your account at any time. ""

""Can I have more than one PayPal account?
Question : Answer : Under the terms of the PayPal User Agreement, customers may only hold one Personal account and either one Premier or one Business account.

You can add multiple eBay User IDs, email addresses or funding sources to each of your accounts, however the same information cannot be registered with more than one account at any one time.""

Just a quick question, if I have one or more eBay accounts and one or more PayPal account, do I have to close the other one, so bringing it down to one account or two accounts?

In theory, having three or more PayPal/eBay accounts is against the rules?:confused:
