Exactly! It so much of a disorganised jumble of random stuff that I can't cope and just go into panic / stress mode and have to leave! So glad it's not just me!!

Hope all those who are coming are ready for tomorrow - if all arrive there will be 6 of us plus one DD and maybe Mr A :D

have bought whoopsied asparagus (20p instead of £1.99)
    how do I cook it
question for Soappie or Greenbee lol

The important thing to do with asparagus is to wash it well (a bit like watercress and spinach) - you want to get the gritty bits out.

Jo's idea of boiling briefly is very good but an alternative is to steam it for about 5 minutes. You can then lob some butter and lemon juice on it.

Or, chop it up into bits and throw it into a stiry fry at the final minute.

Or, of course, there's aspargus soup...

What has happened to the house computer ? DH is a computer freak, he knows everything, and its his line of work, and his hobby is resurrecting old PCs (:confused::confused:) tell me what has happened and perhaps remotely we can help you fix it. My friend's PC died, I went to her house, got DH on the phone and together we managed to get it back up and now its fine. She was ready to shell out for a whole new one.

Thanks sweetie, well, it simply doesn't switch on. Checked the fuse in the plug. When we press the switch on at the back on/off and then press the main ON button on the front we get a quick flash of the orange light which used to indicate it was on but nothing more.

Its an Emachines ancient thing btw. Any more info just ask and I'll try to answer but I don't hold out much hope.:o

DD1 said she unplugged the printer in order to print some stuff from a laptop but other than that we're baffled.

    Ta for asking though.:D

How long you cook it for depends whether it is thin or fat asparagus. ANd how much if it you have (the more you cook in one go, the longer it tends to take).

I have an asparagus steamer :D because I use so much of it (well it's cheap in Norfolk, so I transport it back here!), which means that the stalks are in the water while the tips are out of it.

So you could either dunk it in boiling water or steam it. If it's fat, I do mine for 10 minutes in the steamer (test with a sharp knife to see whether it is cooked). This stuff for about 5. If you can find a way of keeping the tips out of the water, you can cook the stalks properly... if you can't, the stalks will be 'al dente' but you can always cut them off part cooked and use them in risotto later.

I melt my butter in a jug in the MW, then pour it over.

First asparagus of the season is always steamed. Once I've had it a couple of times I start getting creative!

Sounds like your power supply is dead... Do you have a backup? If not, and you don't want to replace the power supply, you can get someone to take the disk out and copy that over to a new (second hand?) PC.
  • 00020334.gif to everyone for the kind words and hugs. On the SS front I know he'll be OK he's always been a jammy little git if he fell in the clyde he'd come out dry with a fish supper in his hand. I still think of him as the little 10 yr old that he was when I first started seeing OH which is why I was upset today. OH still in doghouse!

Abbie my two boys brought a teddy home from school in primary 1 and we had to do a diary and take pictures of our time together. It was great fun we still have the pictures of Barney the teddy up the ladder painting the hall! The kids went on a teddy bears picnic to as part of the topic to the country park next to us (so near that the kids walked). Have fun!

Valli I steam my asparagus. I'm thinking of buying a kettle for doing them as it is meant to be better if you steam them standing up. (and your wee might smell a bit wiffy after eating, don't feel you need to share this info with us though!)
