I was puzzled because some items I had been watching all from the same seller were getting bid up way out of my price range and into silly money with six days left to run. Then all of a sudden they dropped back down into a little less than these items have been going for normally and one of the bidders seems to be missing on all of them. (there are bidders 1,3,4,5, and 6 but no bidder 2 etc.)

Do you think this was a case of some shill bidding going on?

I must admiit I'm horribly naive about these things but doesn't the whole Bidder 1 etc system play into the shill bidders hands?

It could be or it could be the buyer retracting their bid as they keep changing their mind and arent aware of the abuse of bid withdraws. If your suspicious notify ebay and they will invrestigate it.
