Tesco Visa Credit Card Just Changed The Rules

Yo folks,
Thought people might like to be warned about what just happened to
me. Phoned Tesco Visa the day before my bill was due this month and
paid by switch my bill in full as I do every month. The call centre
operative was polite as ever and accepted my payment and then said;
"That's gone through and will take two working days to be credited
to your account. Is there anything else?"
Now, I was about to say "No, thank you" but I remembered that what
they normally say is;
"That's gone through and will take two working days to be credited
to your account and will be back dated to today."
Now, that's quite different if you're paying just before the account is due.
I prompted her that "of course, it will be back dated to today". She said,
"Err, no. That's changed sir. We're not doing that any more". After I
prompted her that I had not received notification of this change she said
that she would mark my account so that it would be back dated this month
but next month I would have to pay 24 working hours earlier than the due
date.
Now, this smacks a little to me of the BarclayCard scandal of shifting the
goal posts on regular full payers at the last moment in order to force them
to pay a fine plus interest.
Be warned folks if you have a Tesco credit card or one by any of the other
cards that are done by the same bank.

Thanks for this. I just checked my Tesco statement which arrived yesterday and within the Making Payments section on the reverse of the giro slip Point 4 indeed states to "allow 2 working days for your payment to reach us".0

Wouldn't it be easier to direct debit the full amount each month.
I don't know about tesco credit card, but my cards have the option to pay the full amount monthly by direct debit.0 -
I don't have a full DD on any of my credit cards, but I *do* have the minimum DD. I pay my balance off in full, paying the remainder (i.e. amount owed minus minumum payment) via on-line banking.
The reason I do this is just in case I don't have enough money in my bank account,I will "only" be hit with the credit card interest, and not a bounced DD charge from my bank and a bounced DD charge from my credit card issuer (or at least it's less likely).
I do religiously pay off in full, but just like this safeguard just in case. I don't like bank charges

Well Grumbler,
Apologies about the sig. Lesson learned. My first post - in a hurry.
Tesco Visa's secret U turn on policy took me by surprise. Thought folks
should know as I guess a lot of people will get caught out with this.

Checked old statements from a year ago and the same wording is on that. I had to call Tesco credit card customer service about something else so I mentioned it and was told that the "goodwill" period that had previously applied has been done away with as per Geekinboots op.0
