Mortgage Protection Nightmare!!

Hi folks, I'm new to this but i just wondered if anyone has got any advice?

My partner was made redundant just before christmas, & paid in lieu till the 23rd Jan 2009, from this date we claimed JSA contribution based because I worked 16hrs and claimed carers allowance for my child, since then i too have lost my job but due to start another soon(just waiting for CRB)
Anyway back to the point....we have claimed on partners policy for morgage protecion, sending them forms which have been filled in from the jobcentre, which confirm that he is still signing for JSA, now they say they wont pay because we have not given them enough information to say he is Actively seeking work!
They want copies of letters to prospective employers, copies of application forms, compliment slips from companies that he's applied for.
I would not mind but there arn't that many jobs available! and they want 5-6 pieces of evidence per Month, so i am seriously thinking of making a complaint to the FSA, is this the right thing to do?

It is normal for them to ask for some form of evidence though in our case they asked for letters the first month and then accepted a copy of OH's JSA book which stated any applications made, job searches etc. I suppose they are just cracking down now due to the current climate and more people obviously needing to claim.
Read through all your documents in regard to the policy and see what it states, if they have not stated that payments will be withheld etc then you could make a complaint. Otherwise just get your OH to apply for any job he can even ones he's not qualified or suitable for in order to get the necessary paperwork.

    Hope he finds something soon.

    Thanks beccam,
only when we last contacted them, they agreed to let us forward on an e-mail which OH recieved from Sky dated 16th March which related to a telephone interview for him in 2-3 months, but then a letter arrived yesterday stating that they would only pay 2 weeks (26th Feb to 16th March) i was under the impression that policy was for a monthly payment,
i think they are just avoiding paying it, and when OH has asked for a job log book at the jobcentre they said that they dont issue them anymore! so they photo copied a sheet of paper which sates what he has been doing to look for work (internet, newspapers etc) shouldn't this be enough?
No where in the policy does it state that payment will not be made if this evidence isn't given! all it says is that proof of JSA is required.

Make a complaint and if they won't budge, go to the ombudsman.

No. The FSA do not handle consumer complaints. They will just forward your complaint on to the insurer.

What they are asking does seem over the top unless they have concerns that you are just going to sit back and take the money for 12 months. There are possible grounds for them to believe that may be the case. So, some level of checking is to be expected. However, what they are asking seems over the top. That said, 5 or 6 details a month isnt that much for someone actively seeking employment. After all, you have 30/31 days a month to be looking for work so sending off one application every 6 or 7 days doesnt really sound like too much to ask for.

rach they may only have paid those first couple of weeks as they tend to work a month behind.
For example, OH couldn't get his first payment til after his first month claiming JSA, he then had to fill out the form and get it stamped at benefits office for the previous month, they would then pay for that month before. (sorry not explaining this well!!)
Basically like a month in lieu, so OH started a new job at the beginning of March and we recieved our last payment from them yesterday which was the Feb/March one.

    Hi there

Hope this sorts out very soon.

Normally the Job centre gives out booklets to complete, this is to show them you have been actively seeking work, such as what employers you have applied to, such as "sent CV to so and so company"
What else you've been doing to search, like "internet jobsearch/Wortrain and or Job Centre plus etc.

Ask for these at the next visit to the job centre if they have not provided them.
When signing they normally take a look then sign the booklet.

You can get these photocopied for the insurance company.

I'm sure it will soon be sorted out, good luck.;)

Well if there were 5-6 jobs that he could apply for he certainly would be, OH has been going into companies locally verbally asking if there is any work, but no joy. (didn't know he needed compliment slips)
he has problems reading and writing and his previous job was in manufacturing, we are under a lot of stress at the moment and this company just want to make things harder. our local steelworks are making massive redundancies, so every job he goes for there is usually 200 applicants

Sorry to hear this again, it was a Steel works where my hubby lost his job, it went into administration so suddenly without notice, just days before Xmas in 2007......
400 of them thrown onto the scap heap, something we will never forget.

Your hubby could let them know the companies he went to asking for jobs, this is something they also expect them to do, hope this helps. X
