I give up. I'm getting dizzy watching the goalposts with a nervous disposition dodge from one end to the other.
You would have been wise to do that when you got it wrong in the first place.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. So far we've spent less than many of the others (US, Japan, Germany), have lower levels of unemployment and lower debt overall. So the idea that we could recover quicker isn't preposterous at all.

When the budget is announced on Wednesday we shall a much better idea as to the extent of the issues facing the UK. Will Alistair Darling be given the freedom to tackle the bloated public sector that has balloned in size and expenditure over the past 10 years ? We may yet have another Labour budget in a years time.
The state of the public finances do lie at the door of one person. As even during a boom period for tax revenues we still seem to have been spending more than we earnt as a nation.0 -

But then again, everything smells of roses in Britain as It could be worse, you could be in Spain:

if unemployment is so high in spain i wonder why there aren't more spanish "economic migrants" to the uk? you rarely come across spaniards in london (compared to polish for example). why is this? Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -

Where I live it is like Madrid in the summer (a normal summer).'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. Although the salaries are generally lower in Spain than the UK - they are not in the same league as Eastern Europe.
Because they have good benefits in Spain - unemployment benefit is linked to earnings.
Pensions are linked to earnings, theoretically in Spain if you have paid into the system for about 40 years pension could be the equivalent of your salary averaged over the preceding 8 years.
Why would they want to come here?0
