Labour were finished eons ago. All that is left is New Labour. Good old Alice Mahon for having the guts to speak out.
I've met Ms Mahon. She seems a decent person. Did she speak out during the time she was an MP?

On your "logic" Major had no chance at all of winning in 97 as he freely admits - why did he cling on "with every last breath in his body"?0 -

They said that about Major 92, Wilson 74, Heath 70 - do I need to go back further? For a result thats "in the bag" its funny how the polls - and the Tory vote - are so volatile. Sure, a Tory win is most likely. But a guarantee? Better put your life savings on it - you'll make a fortune.0 -

Ok, convince me then. How is this man going to win? Theres only so many Rochdales, and, unless theres a cunning plan to get every last person begging for benefits so they can eat a morsal of tesco value rice, there really isn't anyone else who's going to tick the labour box.0 -

1. Economy recovers as now forecasted. Brown's policies vindicated, think tanks publish papers showing that the policy pushed by the Tories would have kept us in recession (not a fantasy - its on the way.....)
2. Spotlight focuses on Tory economic policies and their proposals for massive public spending cuts and rich man tax cuts (IHT). With the mood now looking forward to growth and prosperity again the public decides it wants a return of the good times
To quote Clinton - "its the economy, stupid". Smears - fun though the headlines are for a while - don't make people vote against their own best interest. If they decide they would be better off under Labour as a safe pair of hands (same scenario as 92 - the government blamed for the recession wins) then sleaze matters little. Especially when the other side have no concerns getting their hands (or other bits) dirty either.
I ay again - at this stage it looks likely that the Tories will win. But you are barking if you think its cut and dried. Thats the kind of arrogance that makes me want to say "well awright!!!"0 -
