I think you may be unlucky, Orkney star - the very act of washing clothes that has 'school' paint on them seems to turn the paint into permanent dye, so I'm not sure there's a way of removing it. I've even tried Stain Devils and nail varnish remover with no luck.
Hmmmm I thought that, so if I have another paint stain from Toddlers today what should I do before washing ?

when mine were small and we got all the nasty stuff over their clothes, i used to soak them overnight in plain cold water. then wash them but never below 40. if things really are hard to get rid off, vanish liquid, the normal one, in the machine, but use more than what they say. if you soak them over night, you need only half the powder you would normally use.

Thanks the soaking (with a dab of stardrops) seems to have worked.
Ketchup will come off in normal wash I hope but the purple paint is no longer with us!
    :D thanks.
