I swear by these things for getting rid of stains at low temperatures, Vanish Oxi Action Multi Stain Remover Powder or Ace In Wash Stain Remover Gentle Bleach.

I use Tesco Non-Bio powder and wash at 30 degrees, if something has a bad stain on it, I put a little Vanish liquid (ordinary pink bottle) in with the wash and it works:D

Some stains seem to 'set' onto the clothes if you don't get them out first time (the water based paint the kids used in school was the worst) so I got into the habit of pre-treating things, usually with washing-up liquid and a nailbrush. However, I have awful trouble getting my DH's white cotton pillow cases clean; they seem to be permanently stained with sweat, even though I've tried boil washing them using washing soda, vanish etc. They look especially awful next to my pillow cases, which are still dazzling white. I'm seriously thinking of buying coloured bedding.
    Would napisan be any good?

Anyone know how to shift this after a wash ? DS had some on his sleeve and I did not realise it was there until hanging the washing up! Black on a cream top too .

I think you may be unlucky, Orkney star - the very act of washing clothes that has 'school' paint on them seems to turn the paint into permanent dye, so I'm not sure there's a way of removing it. I've even tried Stain Devils and nail varnish remover with no luck.

Now this may sound a little weird and I haven't tried it - but I'm going to!I saw Vivenne Westwood saying she never washes her bras - she cleans them with talc. I don't know if I would go so far - but I know what she means, some things are never the same again after the first wash. However, she did say it removes grease spots etc etc so I'm going to give it a go (I am chicken so I will put things in the machine afterwards though).
Hi. (New but long time lurker)
Is it really possible to clean something with talc? Will it remove sweat?

I use bold or ariel tablets of liquid depending on what is on offer.

I always have some napisan (usually next to the milton liquid in the baby aisle) in, I like to use it on kids bedding washes mostly but it is also pretty good on stains.
  • Believe it or not I find that wd40 is brill for getting grease marks out of clothes

Am i the only one that found napisan a bit well rubbish on stains and whites lol, i usually use dylons power whitner sachets and they work a treat on OH's white shirts and white socks but not on the dreaded curry stains which at the minute i am having a terrible time getting rid of and am resorting to bleach.
I have boil washed with napisan, soaked in napisan, boiled in dylon, the ariel new gel, soda crystals and nothing works. I have now told him if he is eating chilli, spag bol or curry to go topless as he always doe sit when wearing his white t-shirts.....I could kill him he put a brand new one on the other day and guess what :( a huge curry splodge is down the front now this must be about 8 white t-shirts.

In the end i am going to resort to buying a stain devil.....

BTW the Ariel gel is fab on most items i have been a follower of it sinced it was released and keep telling everyone it is super even with half the amount i got 45 washes out of the normal sized bottle, cleans so well and the smell lingers for days :)
  • I scrub stains with washing up liquid before washing in machine. Something about washing my stains without doing this first just sets them in forever!
Drying on the line in the sun does get rid of yellow and orange stains, too.
