Mobile Phone GPS

Just recently got the tocco ultra and noticed the GPS isn't all that accurate, it gives the general location every time but is a few streets off every time. Is this normal on phones or does it vary with some being more accurate than others? Thanks

sounds to melike your using google maps or something similar using a network and not the gps, gps in phones is as accurate as standalone units (give or take a little)

I have a Nokia 6220c and its GPS is about the same or maybe slightly less accurate as a couple of satnavs I use in the car. The phone does show me in the correct place but sometimes decides I have hyperspace-jumped to a location in the next street then immediately back again.

All GPS units can suffer from this especially in urban areas where high buildings confuse them with reflected signals.

I thought this TBH and as a trial installed TomTom on my Samsung Omnia then used it in the Car next to my TomTom Go 720 on a long trip and they were identical all the way.

I've been looking into this and some people are reporting that Google Maps does not allow (for what reason?!) the Tocco Ultra to use the GPS to pinpoint location but uses the network signal only hence the reason why the position is in a big circle rather than accurate. Anyone know if this is correct and why on earth it would be? I can't find an option on google maps to use the inbuilt GPS instead. It seems utterly stupid. I have to say the google maps is pretty poor on this phone and wonder if anyone knows of any other similar software and something that does work with the Tocco Ultra's inbuilt GPS? Thanks
