t k maxx

Got two brilliant bargains in TK maxx today, not a great lover of shopping there but a double Regatta jacket and a gillet for around £34 was unpassable. Then i got to the till, 'did madam want a bag, course madam wanted a bag, i really didnt want to be carrying goods without a bag out of the shop. Madam would be charged 15p, 15p f...kng pence.
i was incensed, felt i was being railroaded into buying a bag, the costs of these are already built into the price of the goods, told them so, couldnt help my self, daylight robbery i said, till this very nice young lady who was serviing me
siad all the money from the bags was given to charity. Thats okay then, but how do i know that. No signs up, no text on the bags. So is it given to charity, does anyone know.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

  • I thought it was. They also sell some very nice cotton bags, which I use - they're a handy size and can be folded up into next-to nothing. My local TK is near Tesco's, so I can gain green clubcard points too. Bargain!

I like to irritate stores actually as I do not waste bags but sometimes you make an impulse buy or buy more than you had intended and just don't have a bag available.

M and S are the best, I bought their meal deal the other day, managed to stand the bottle of wine up in my handbag and put the salad bowl on top of the books I had in my own bag, the chicken though was heavy and sticky and I didn't want it in with the books, so I said I would carry it. I said I was going into the clothing section and was that OK even though I would need to keep putting the chicken down on counters an things and suddenly I got a free bag.

In ASda I had overbought shopping so had meat trays again with no bag and they were really unhappy when I said I was going back to browse the clothing section and in the end I got a bag there as well, although my Asda now does have free bags available again as it is a high street one, not an out of town one and I think they were losing trade as people like me instead of popping in and buying something extra for tea just wouldn't bother if we didn't have a bag with us. I have also told them to put shopping back before now when I have run out of bags rather than buy more.

I have actually saved money now as it has cut down on my impulse buying as I used to walk home through the town from work and would never have a carrier in my tiny work handbag, so I started going home the direct way instead and not shopping, so maybe it is a good thing.

The last time I was in TK Maxx, the assistant said I could either pay 15p for a tkmaxx bag or I could have a second-hand asda bag for nothing. I took the asda bag and wanted to go round and hug the girl for being so nice.

  • I now have a couple of jute shopping bags that I use whenever I leave the house to go near a shop. Far better than using the supermarket plastic bags. I'd like to see more people using jute/cotton bags or taking cardboard boxes with them to the supermarket and do away with these plastic bags anyway. I think I've lost count of the amount of tesco plastic bags I've seen stuck in trees or round bushes littering the environment - they seem to get everywhere.

I don't mind taking bags to the supermarket when I do my weekly shop in a car, but trying to be greener means I try and shop on my way home from work some nights rather than drive to the supermarket. Then if you don't have a bag you are completely stuck.

As for clothes shops not giving bags, that is ridiculous. So I buy a lovely cream dress and am expected to either put it on top of the meat from the butcher that I have just vistsed or maybe in the other bag with lots of grubby and dusty books from the charity shop. Then what happens if it pours with rain on the way home?

My husband bought some walking boots from TKMax and came out of the shop with them in his hands (disgusted at having to pay for a bag after he had just spent £60). As we went into Sports Direct we showed the security guard the boots, so he didn't stop us on the way out, and he couldn't believe they had let us walk out like that. He gave us a carrier bag and my husband proudly walked around with his boots in a bag advertising Sports Direct.

You'd still need a bag to carry home the one you went out in.
